Barbary Corsair - Barbary Corair wear the traditional dress of the Muslim land of the North African coast
Caribbean Pirates - Dressed flamboyant . A Caribbean pirate shows that he will happily stop to steal a few bales of cloth.
Chinese Pirates - Chinese Pirates often wear long pigtairs, and carried bows, knives and short curved swords
Different Seaman
Pirates - A pirate is and seafarer, man or woman, who commits acts of robber on the hight seas. Piracy is as old as seafaring itself. Many pirates and buccaneers have sailed on occasion as privateers
Buccaneer - Also knowns as free boasters, buccaneers were particularly those English and French pirates who were based on the island of Tortuga, and in Port Royal in Jamaica in the 17th century
Privateer - A privateers is a man who sails with a commission know as a letter of maraud. There letters are issued by the governments and permit the privateer to take and make prize of enemy ships

A
Abaft - To the rear of a ship.
Abeam -At right angles to a ship.
About - To turn e.g. 'go about'.
Aft - At the back of a ship.
Ahoy! - Hello!
Aloft - Up in the rigging.
Amidships - In the center of a ship.
Avast! - Stop!
Aye, Aye! - Yes
B
Bail - To remove water in a bucket.
Belay There! - Stop that!
Bilges- The bottom of a ship's hold.
Bow - The very front of a ship.
Bowsprit - A spear extending from the the bow
Bulkhead - Wooden walls inside a ship hold to stop cargo rolling about.

Captstan - A barrel-shaped device used to weigh the anchor.
Careen - To scrape the hull of a ship clean of barnacles and weeds.
Cast off! - Let's go!
Caulk - To waterproof in between the planks of a ship.
Crow's Nest - A platform at the top of the main mast used for look out.

Fathom - Six feet
Fore - At the front of the ship.
Founder - Sink
Figure Head - The statue that sits on bottom of the bowsprit at the bow of the /(sits under the spear that extends on the front of a the ship.)

Halyards - Ropes used to hoist sails.
Heads - The ships toilets in the bow.
Heave - Away - Pull up the anchor.

Keel - A wooden bar extending beneath the ship, providing stability.
Knot - 1 nautical mile per hour (= 1.7 miles per hour)

Landlubber or Lubber - A landsman
Lanyard - Ropes used to tie things.
Larboard - The left hand side of a ship, looking forwards, also know 'Port side'.
Lee ward - A way from the direction the wind is blowing.

Marlinspike - A metal spike used to separate strands of rope for splicing.

Scuppers - Opening in the side of a ship that let water drain away.
Scuttle - To sink a ship by taking it out.
Sea Anchor - A drap towed behind a ship to slow it down.
Sea chest - A sailor's wooden box containing his belongings.
Spill - Lose wind from a sail.
Stand By! - Get ready!
Starboard - The right hand side of a ship, looking forwards.
Swab the Deck! - Mop the deck!

Weight Anchor! - Raise the anchor!
Where Away? - Which way?
Pirates are fond of strong drinks. Some enjoy Kill-Devil, a concoction of rum laced with gun-power, drunk in tanned leather mugs called Blackjacks. When two Pirates have a disagreement, the Captain often lets them fight it out with sword or cutlass, usually on shore.
