Snowday

Eliwood was exhausted as he slowly headed down the hall toward his office. He had just returned from aiding a village that had been raided by bandits. During the battle, one of the bandits managed to get an axe in Eliwood's shoulder and if that wasn't bad enough it was snowy and cold on the ride home, the wind was so strong it caused Eliwood's horse to get spooked and buck him off into a half frozen lake. Eliwood sighed as he sat down at his desk, silently praying that his day couldn't get worse. As Eliwood sat there lost, deep in thought and self- pity he didn't notice the door open with Roy coming inside until the small child tugged his pant leg.

'Roy not now, I'm busy' Eliwood muttered.

'But…' Before Roy could finish Eliwood hushed him.

'Please no buts Roy, I had somewhat of a long day and right now I need to get this paper work done' Eliwood said.

'Ok, sorry for bothering you' Roy said quietly as he headed toward the door way.

Eliwood glanced toward him, surprised to see that the small child was nearly in tears.

'Roy, wait what is it you needed?' Eliwood asked, getting up from his seat.

Roy turned around, his blue eyes now bright.

'I wanted to know if you wanted to come outside and have a snowball war, but since your busy I'll go and ask Marcus instead' Roy replied.

Eliwood suddenly burst out laughing, as he thought about Marcus outside throwing snowballs.

'These papers can wait Roy, I think I would much rather have a snow ball war' Eliwood said, following Roy out.

The two had just made it to the castle door, when Ninian came out from the sitting room.

'Where are you two heading?' She asked.

'Father and I are gonna have a snowball war!' Roy said, jumping up excitedly.

'You care to join us dear? The more the merrier after all' Eliwood teased.

Ninian thought it over and then much to Eliwood's surprise nodded her head.

'I think I could teach you two a thing or two about snowballs.' Ninian replied.

'Mommy, father is the best snowball thrower in all Pherae' Roy said, as he headed outside.

'Well, we'll have to see about that' Ninian said, with a bit of laughter.

Once they were outside, Eliwood picked up a clump of snow and began forming it into a nice snowball, when suddenly he was bombarded in snowballs by Ninian who was standing a good distance away. Roy on the other hand had gracefully dodged most of his mother's throws, only to be hit in the back by Eliwood. After what seemed like hours, the sun slowly began setting, casting a beautiful glow along the snow. Ninian now had the upper hand on both Eliwood and Roy who were working together to try and take her down.

'Do you two want to call it quits and head inside?' Ninian asked, while she busily made another snowball.

Before they had chance to reply, the castle door opened and Eleanora stepped out.

'There's nice hot coca inside if you all want to come inside and warm up' Eleanora said.

'Can we take a coca break?' Roy asked.

Ninian smiled, as she nodded her head.

'And tomorrow we'll have ourselves a little rematch' Eliwood said.

Roy gently tugged his father's leg.

'I'm gonna be on mommy's team next time. She's been deemed the best snowball thrower in all the land' Roy said, excitedly.

After everyone was seated in the sitting room, beside the fireplace Eliwood listened will Roy told Eleanora about the great snowball fight they had, he couldn't help but give silent thanks, to whom ever had made his day better.

The End!
