Chapter 1
Americus was a normal girl but people where always telling her "With a name like yours you better be the best." Mostly old woman would say that to her. You know the old woman who think they know everything because there older than you and think they know whats best for the world. It didn't bug her really. She just nodded and went on her way. People where always telling Americus that she had life easy. What was so easy about being a 14 year old girl who lives with her mom in a small town in the middle of nowhere?? Her mom had given birth to her in A walmart because her dad had left her there 2 monthes earlier and she had knowhere else to go. Americus was what people called the "Wal-mart baby" Some of the people made fun of her because of it. When she was little some Christians kidnapped her because they thought she needed to be given "the word of god." They found her though. The kidnappers put her in a christmas display infront of a Church. Her mother Novalee Nation vowed then and there that she would never let that happen again, and to this day...she hasn't.
