A shotgun blast tore up the dirt behind me. I dove, and came up rolling. I took off running.
"GO!"
"Put your hands up!"
The policeman ran up to me, and pushed me up against his car. He slapped his handcuffs onto my wrists. Beside me, the man's partner slapped the cuffs on Elle as well.
"You're under arrest for trespassing."
"Please officer? Can you let this one slide? Pretty please?"
"No. You have to learn."
As Elle began to beg the officers to let us out, they shoved us into the car. We were pressed tight.
"Hey, Officer? Can I have a light?"
The officer grew mad and slammed the door.
"Let's make a run for it, Claire," Elle suggested with a glint in her eye.
"Are you crazy," I asked.
"It'd make a good story! Think about it? Two friends running from the cops?"
"Bad idea, Elle."
"They're really taking their time, aren't they, Claire?"
Two hours later, we were still in the car. I was having fun, just talking and laughing with Elle.
"All right, you're free to go," the officer said, opening the door for us.
I didn't want to leave. I mean, I wasn't happy about being locked up, but I was having fun sitting so close to Elle.
"Time to go, Claire," Elle said.
We exited the car. I boldly put a kiss on Elle's lips.
"I love you, Elle," I said.
"I love you too, Claire," she replied.
