Chapter One-- Excitement over a Letter

Lily Evens was an eleven year old girl with red hair and green eyes. Not to mention that she was very short for her age. Her mother and father loved and adored her very much, but that's why her sister hated her more than you would believe possible(not counting being the complete opposite of Lily ). Petunia Evens was a horsed faced girl of fifteen who would have looked very pretty if she didn't put on to much make-up each morning. (Lily said the make-up made her look like a giraffe.) She also had a VERY big mouth, all the better to gossip with, my dear. But above all, Petunia had no imagination what so ever. So one day in June, Petunia was in a very bad mood, which wasn't a rare occurrence. Her father William Richard Evens had bullied her into getting the mail.

"Of course" she thought. "Why would he want perfect Lily to get the mail." She picked up the letters and thought a little bit about how unfair it was that Daddy loved Lily more. Scowling, she went into the kitchen. "Here you go, father," she said handing him four letters. "And one for you, mum. And of look-- ikkle Lily got two. I don't think I shall give them to you."

"Petunia? What in the world do you mean?" said her mother, Victoria Carter Evans sternly.

"Petunia, give me my letters," Lily added. "'Cause--"

"Why should I give them to you?" Petunia mocked.

"'Cause if you don't, I'll tell your boyfriend Robert Crock that you went to the movies with Vernon Dursley last Saturday!"

"Don't you dare!" Petunia screeched, throwing the letters across the table.

"Thank you," Lily smirked, matter-of-factly.

Mr. Evens looked up cluelessly from his letters, "I got bills, what about you, darlings?" They all stared at him for a second, and then went back to their toast. It was a well known fact that Mr. Evens had a one-track mind. "What?"

"Nothing dear," Mrs. Evens said sarcastically. "I just got a letter from Elizabeth and Joe in Hawaii, and you Lily?"

"A letter from my penpal in Luxembourg and…" she paused leafing through the letters. "Mum, Dad. I got an invitation to go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!"

The shocked surprise she expected was not fulfilled. "That's nice dear," her mother smiled. "Where is Hogwatts?"

"Hogwarts," Lily corrected, glancing down at her letter. "And I don't know, can I go?"

"Well I don't see why not," her mother answered. "What do you think, dear?" she asked Mr. Evens.

"When did anyone spend 211 pounds at the Department Store?" said Mr. Evens cluelessly, still looking at his bills.

"You can take that as I yes, Lily," Mrs. Evens said, giving her husband a sympathetic glance.

Petunia on the other hand, was on her knees laughing. "Ikkle…hah hum… Lils… hee hee… going to… hah hah… a school for… hee hee… WITCHES!"

"It's not funny, Petunia," Lily said.

"Why do you think I'm laughing!" Petunia snapped before dissolving into another fit of the giggles.

"Petunia Elizabeth Evans! Go straight to your room and stay there!" said Mrs. Evens sternly.

Petunia left the room just like when she had gotten the mail, bored and mad.
