Shadows Dawn: CH 1

The forest of Avalar was quiet, so quiet you could hear your heart race. It is in this environment are that a lone dragoness is found wandering the dense forest. She was a light blue color with four backwards sweped horns, one with a jeweled ring. A line of light purple fins ran down her spine from the top of her head to the tip of her fur-covered tail.

"Crap, this place is way too dang big. And I know there's a village in here somewhere. But where..." She was cut off by an ear-piercing screech. She froze, the sound unmistakable to her, as she had heard it over the last year. A very large, black wyvern suddenly burst out of the foliage and charged at her, fangs bared. She leapt over its back but couldn't avoid its massive tail. She was hit head-on and thrown several yards, completely dazed. The beast turned and prepared to run again. It raised its head to charge. Then a loud ear ringing pop echoed through the forest and a bleeding hole appeared in the beasts shoulder. He let out a whining cry and begins frantically searching for his attacker. The Blue Dragoness looked up and watched dazed as another pop sounded and another wound appeared. This time in the beast's chest. He staggered and wobbled.

A shadowy figure emerged, wearing a green rain shell, goggles, and a black hunting mask, to hide its identity. The figure held a smoking gun in its gloved hands. Slowly the figure moved forward and slung the rifle onto its pack, and pulled out a much shorter yet larger gun from the side of its pack he approached the beast slowly. "Can you speak beast?" The voice was male. He pulled the trigger and a massive explosion sounded forth and the beast was peppered with buckshot. He pumped the shotgun and yelled again. "Talk fool! Or shall I end you now?" The black lizard shuddered, but conceded. "What is it you wish to know?" The gunman never moved. "Why are you trying to kill this young Dragon?" The great beast stared the stranger down, black eyes glaring holes through his soul. "What business is it of yours? Human?"

At the revealing of his race the man pulled the trigger and blew a hole through its skull. The beast shuddered once, then fell dead. The man turned to the dragoness and she froze, staring in fear. He put away his gun and slowly approached her. "It is all right, I am a friend, and I will not hurt you." She tried to flee but cried out and fell as a searing pain tore through her torso. "Your ribs, I think they're broken. Here let me help you." He crouched and reached for her, but she hissed and snapped at him. "Hey! Knock it off! Or you're going to have a tough time getting home!" She lowered her head and glared at him growling, but nodded and let him bandage and splint her chest. "There, now can you stand on three legs" he tied down her right leg to her body to support the broken ribs. He slung his pack back on. She stood slowly and shakily but her face showed very little pain. "Come on, there is a settlement nearby, and you don't want to get stuck out here at night." He led the way a bit and she followed. As they walked the dragoness turned to him and quietly whispered thanks. "Thank you, for helping me." He looked down at her. "You're very welcome. What's your name?"

"I'm shard. And you?" He paused slightly. "I'd rather not say right now. Call me John." "Okay, John."
