Ichigo took a well-deserved break at Café Mew Mew's employee lounge. Upon removing her apron and work shoes she sat down and stabbed a fork into her brownie a la mode. She mewed impulsively as she chewed the rich, dark chocolate walnut brownie, detected the sweetness in the whipped cream, delighted at how juicy the sliced strawberries were that day.
It was a good thing that she liked, no, loved her namesake fruit. A girl named Ichigo detesting ichigo would be amusingly ironic. The same thing would have been true if Minto hated mint, Retasu lettuce, Purin pudding, and Zakuro pomegranate. All four, however, did indeed like their namesakes to varying extents.
Another bite entered her mouth. Now that she thought about it, it was an amazing coincidence that all five girls were named after food. There may have been more girls named after food in Tokyo (she was sure of it), but not one member of Tokyo Mew Mew had a "normal" given name like Keiko, or Ami, or Michiko.
Maybe it was not a complete accident that they were injected with animal DNA after all. Maybe it was fate that chose them to be superheroes after all. It would have been fitting after all, to have such appropriate, tell-all civilian names…
Ichigo smiled as Minto entered, fingers latched around a cup of mint tea.
