The heart goes on

I do not own House of Night in any way.

After Dragon's death, one fledgling in particular took his death the hardest.

Her name was Lily Evans (in honor of Harry Potter's mother). She built a memorial outside his classroom. She sat there for days following his death.

Lily sat there one day. She felt someone coming up behind her. She jumped up and spun around.

"Be calm young fledgling", Thanatos said.

Lily didn't bow; she just sat back down.

"I realize you are taking this hard…"Thanatos said.

"Hard?" Lily said softly, "…I loved him".

Thanatos gave a little gasp.

"I loved him more than anyone I've ever met", Lily said.

Thanatos sat down next to the young girl. "But Dragon had…" Thanatos said.

"Yes, I know he had Anastasia!" Lily snapped.

"He died a hero", Thanatos said putting her hand on Lily's shoulder.

Lily jumped up and yelled, "Stop trying to make his death seem okay! It's not okay! I loved him! I just wanted him to love me…"

"But I did love you", Dragon said.

Thanatos and Lily turned and saw Dragon.

Dragon walked up to Lily. "I loved you Lily Evans. I just couldn't show you. After my Anastasia was…I never recovered. I didn't know what love was anymore. Anastasia will always be my first love, but you will always hold a special place in my heart", he said. He took Lily's face in his hands and kissed her forehead. "Farewell little flower", Dragon whispered against her forehead, "Shed no more tears for me".

Lily watched Dragon slowly fade away.

"The heart goes on, little fledgling", Thanatos said, "Come".

Lily looked back at Dragon's memorial. "My heart will belong to you Bryan 'Dragon' Lankford", Lily said softly.

Thanatos smiled down at the now-at-peace fledgling.

I love Dragon. In the end, he was good.
