Everything was over. After ten long years, everything was over. There were wizards partying all around the world, for one of the darkest wizards that had ever lived was gone.
Despite all the happiness that was felt and all the celebrations going on, Severus Snape was bursting out of Albus Dumbledore's office, the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. His eyes were red and it was clear that he had been crying.
I failed to protect her. He thought. He rummaged the corridors not thinking clearly. He made a turn, and another and the stone walls seemed the same. That was when he realized he was lost. Severus Snape finally stopped.
In the entire corridor there was only one door, and thought that it was probably a good place to hide.
He opened the door and entered. It was a classroom, and it was completely empty, apart from one single object that didn't seem to belong there. It was a mirror, framed in gold and taller than anyone. Severus approached it.
His knees gave up and he fell to the floor in front of the mirror. After a while he finally dared to lift his head from the floor and look at the mirror again.
There he was, lying on the floor, and standing up by his side was a woman. Her red hair was long and beautiful and her eyes were green.
He watched as she sat by his side and put a comforting hand on his shoulder.
I'm sorry… Severus said. A single whisper at first, but then his voice became stronger. I'm sorry Lily… tears were silently sliding down his cheeks and he didn't move a finger to stop them. I'm sorry I wasn't there… he said again. I'm sorry… I couldn't protect you! I'm sorry I wasn't there for you when you when you most need it… I'm sorry… Forgive me, because I will never forgive myself for what I've done…
He leaned against the mirrored glass and pressed a hand against it… it was just glass and nothing could pass through it.
That was the night when Severus Snape cried. He cried as he had never done before, for the love of his life was lost, and he would never be the same again.
