Santana and Brittany make it.
They get out of Lima when they didn't think they would. It was separately at first. High school was harder to deal with than they cared to admit. But high school's over. At least the parts Santana didn't care about anymore.
They met each other again when Brittany was visiting the city on a trip with her girlfriends. Santana lied and said she barely recognized her. They both knew she was lying.
They had their hot cocoa and muffins. Brittany had whipped cream on her nose, Santana restrained herself from wiping it away. They got coffee the next day. Brittany missed two whole days of school because she stayed longer. Santana actually helped Brittany write her paper because she felt bad she was missing school.
But not too badly because she knew herself enough to see them together, in the same place, doing things like sip coffee on the couch, writing papers or doing work; being together.
Santana hated phone calls, but she sacrificed that because Brittany excitedly telling her about getting her dance moves just right was worth having to awkwardly bite her nails as she listened. It was this thing that they didn't want to name. The last time they named things, they got burned. But, it didn't surprise either of them when the thing became something and the something became what they thought was long forgotten.
It was a year later from when they saw each other again that Santana asked Brittany to live with her. It was the worst phone call she'd ever been in. And the best.
"I wish I could do better by you 'cause that's what you deserve. You sacrifice so much of yourself for this to work."
"I'm yours to keep."
Brittany flew that same night to where she was. When Santana opened her door, Brittany smiled the smile that Santana built her love on.
"What a beautiful girl."
"My beautiful girl."

"When you cry a piece of my heart dies, knowing that I may have been the cause. If you were to leave, fulfill someone else's dreams I think I might totally be lost."
Brittany proposes when they go to a local coffee shop for hot cocoas and muffins. Santana cries; she sobs; she kisses Brittany over and over again and hugs her tightly. But most importantly, she says yes.
It's a small diamond ring, but it's the best one Santana has ever laid her eyes on. Her heart beats wildly in her chest and her hand trembles as they struggle to get the ring on her finger.
They live in a small apartment and make ends meet. It takes a while until they get their proper footing. But they get it together and it is more than anything that they can ask for.
Santana proposes back to Santana on their first anniversary because at least every girl should have the chance to be proposed to. She offers a small diamond ring back and apologizes through tears.
"You don't ask for no diamond rings, no delicate string of pearls. That's why I wrote this song to sing, what a beautiful girl."
"My beautiful girl."
Brittany and Santana make it. And they make it wonderful.
