"Do you have any idea how worried I was? No notes? No calls? All I had to go on was a news report telling me that you were both being held hostage by Captain Cold!" Iris yelled down at the two men, hands on her hips. Barry and Wally sat side by side, sinking deeper into the couch with every word.
"You could have been killed!" she continued, looking both furious and insanely relieved with the two Flashes sitting in front of her.
"But…we weren't?" Barry said, giving her what he thought was a charming smile. It instantly shriveled under her fierce gaze. Now was NOT the time for him to play cute…
"Sorry Aunt Iris…" Wally said, sitting up a bit, "But we couldn't exactly whip our cellphones out, could we?" Iris turned to look at him, and both Barry and Wally feared he'd spoken to his aunt too freely.
But his bright green eyes and freckled face won her over, and both men watched with relief as her anger started to melt away.
"Fine!" she sighed, throwing her hands up into the air, "But I want both of you in bed!"
"No pre-bed games or snacks?" Wally asked with a bit of a whimper to his voice.
"No pre-bed games or snacks." Iris echoed, pointing towards the hall, "Now go to bed young man!" Wally stood up with slouched shoulders, trudging down the hall towards his bedrooms.
"Isn't that a bit harsh on the kid?" Barry asked, sitting up in his own seat, "We were just-"
"You got to bed too!" Iris said, turning her attention to her blonde-haired husband.
"What?" Barry yelped, the same whine in his voice that Wally had, "But…I'm an adult! I shouldn't have to go to bed too!"
"What was that?" Iris demanded, narrowing her eyes. Barry flinched back, knowing that he was seconds away from playing a dangerous game he had no chance in.
"I said goodnight sweetheart…" Barry sighed, getting to his feet and shuffling down the hall to the bedroom they shared. Like Wally, he mumbled complaints the whole time.
Iris sighed, sitting on the couch they'd occupied moments earlier. With the two of them safely in bed, now she could get a peaceful moment to read…But ten minutes hadn't passed before Iris heard muffled whispering down the hall. No doubt they were talking about the mission that caused all the problems. Sitting up, Iris turned towards the hallway, slamming her book shut.
"BED!" She shouted, almost smiling when she heard both doors slam shut, and then the squeak of springs as both men scurried back to their beds before she came down the hall.
Iris sighed, rubbing her temple. Flash and Kid Flash. An eccentric pair. The fastest men in the world. Probably two of the most frustrating, impatient, and immature boys in the world.
But they were still her boys.
