This is my submission to Vitality Palmer's Timed i-pod UN challenge. The song that shuffle gave me: "We are the People" by Empire of the Sun. Enjoy!
We Live in Adventure
I blame Henry. It's his fault. He started it. Whatever happens next is his responsibility entirely. There's no way he's going to rope me into feeling guilty for his mistakes. I didn't want to go to the library in the first place and especially not to the third floor which was currently under construction. But of course, that's where I ended up after office hours and way passed my curfew. I moaned and groaned about it, complaining to Henry how whatever book he wanted could easily be checked out in the morning and if he couldn't wait until then, we could always look up the information online in a second. Henry only ssh'd me and continued to walk in the dark.
Naturally I followed after him, but not possessing cat eyes like Henry, I soon lost sight of him. Again I complained about the absurdity of what we were doing in the dark. Henry instructed me to just close my eyes and follow the sounds of his body.
"Your aura will find mine," he promised.
After I rolled my eyes I closed them and listened for Henry. To help me along he made deliberate noise to focus my attention.
It backfired as I walked straight into a metal bookcase. It hurt. A lot. I managed to navigate passed it and turned around to move on. As I crept on with pain blooming in my nose and swear words pouring out of my mouth I failed to notice the shelf behind me falling forward. I was a few seconds away from being crushed by a hundred pounds of books and steel frame before I heard Henry yelling my name.
The sound of my name was drowned out by the clamor of books and case crashing to the floor. I felt hands pushing on my chest followed by the weight of my blond companion as Henry shoved me out of danger.
"You okay?" Henry asked, his breath hot against my face.
I nodded. I felt odd: warm and flighty. There was a bad taste in my throat as the adrenaline coursed through my body. I was alive and in one piece. And it was all thanks to Henry Griffin.
Henry sighed in relief and pressed his forehead to mine.
I echoed it with a release of my own and did the only thing a teenager hopped up on adrenaline could do. I kissed Henry on the mouth.
It lasted only a second, but it was long enough for me to know that I wanted to do it again.
Henry pulled away, a big smile on his face. "Looks like you've found me."
I started to respond but was cut off by the sound of a security running to investigate the crash. Henry jumped to his feet and offered me a hand. I took at and he yanked me to my feet and together we jetted to the emergency exit. Taking the stairs two at a time we fled to the car parked nearby.
When we got in we stared intently at each other for a moment before bursting out in laughter.
I started the car and drove out of the parking lot. I berated Henry during the drive for being so brash, but in my heart I didn't really mean it.
Whatever happens next will not be my fault. After all it's practically impossible to ignore Henry and his adventures.
