Advance Wars: The Spann Island Campaign

Disclaimer: Of course I don't own Advance Wars, though I would like to. If I did own it, don't you think I would be famous enough to write REAL FICTION?

Chapter 1: The Battle for the Bridge Part One

Private Root looked through the length of his sniper rifle. The Orange Star and Blue Moon had quickly started this war, and Root had joined the Orange side. It was his native country, after all, and the Blue Moon was threatening total control. He had joined the 204th sniping division for the thrill of being on the battlefield. He had never expected to be trying to snipe down enemy troops in one of the most necessary battles of the war! Spann Island was in the middle of the two nations, floating in the ocean. If Orange Star got control of it, it would mean victory for sure.

Spann Island is, basically, a square. The enemy HQ had been rumored to be in the northeast side of it, and so there were two ways of attacking it. First would be an expanse of land to the south that the Blue Moon had heavily blockaded. Sending troops that way would be suicide. However, the troops stationed there were not going to stay still for long. Pretty soon, Orange Star was sure they would try to invade the HQ. Right now, they're just waiting for Orange Star to start losing money, so they would be forced to slow the production of troops. So Root had been sent to guard the only other entrance into the enemy's HQ: a small bridge on the north. The only way to win over the blockade in the south was to divide, and then attack the enemy blockade from both sides. The weak troops and rockets sent to mop up would be crushed by the attack from behind, and the main line would be pinned between two waves of opposing forces. In other words, the blockade would be smashed. Root was guarding the convoy of troops across the bridge. Then, he would follow behind them and take out any more enemies. However, stealth is of the essence. If the enemy troops get a notion that Orange Star is moving to attack, the Blue Moon blockade would soon become a rolling barrier and smash into the Orange Star HQ, demolishing the Orange Star's hold on the island and making a naval attack way too easy. (In other words, it would be very, very bad.)

The sniper rifle slipped in his hands, and he picked it up again and put it back on the tripod. Julius, another member of the squad next to him, sneezed. Just everyday stuff. So it came as a bit of a shock when a MD Tank unit smashed down the trees on the far side of the bridge and opened fire.
