Sometimes it rains, and he looks out the window, agitation boiling just millimeters beneath his skin. He's not good at being cooped up, watching the water crawling over the pavement. Eventually, the raindrops collect themselves into piles along the sides of the street, slinking slowly into the drains. When it rains, his mother always tells him to stay inside; he can go wherever he wants once the rain stops falling.

He can't help thinking of all the places he could be, though, and not on the bottom of the list is at the fast food restaurant. Ryoma usually goes with him out of habit, even on days that rain. They can sit inside and watch the droplets spatter across the glass as they eat, and they talk about nothing in particular, and everything, at the same time. Ryoma doesn't talk too much, but Momoshiro makes up for it.

Momoshiro always buys two cheeseburgers, fries, and a medium Pepsi. Sometimes Ryoma tries to best him, and sometimes he doesn't really care. Ryoma doesn't live by a schedule, doesn't follow any specific set of rules. He just lives, and Momoshiro is glad that he can be a part of that life.

On days that it rains, he stares out the window wishing for the plastic grips of his bike beneath his fingers, and wondering what Ryoma's doing to pass the time.

Sometimes the sun is shy and hides just behind the clouds so that little fringes of yellow peak out, teasing with its warm rays. It never fails to vanish behind its cloudy blanket, and a little pinprick of cold will strike until it comes out again.

Even though he's a little chilled, Momoshiro likes to get ice cream from the stand on 4th Street. Ryoma usually tags along on the back of his bike, but sometimes he walks and Momoshiro has to ride slowly to let him keep up. He doesn't mind very often, because when they get there he can make Ryoma sit on the sidewalk while he has his bike seat. It doesn't disappoint him that Ryoma doesn't care.

They go to the public courts to play tennis later, and usually find people there they'd rather not spend free time with. Thanks to their unfriendly challengers, they're able to improve their doubles game. Often, they leave feeling a little unsatisfied, but never with regrets.

Sometimes it's quiet, especially in the later evening when Momoshiro's little brother and sister have been tucked into bed. He never can get used to the quiet-- it only provokes his thoughts. He calls Ryoma then, sometimes to find that he's in the bath, or playing tennis with his father, or that nobody will answer. When Ryoma does answer, he lets Momoshiro talk as long as he wants.

Sometimes Ryoma does all the right things.
