This idea just suddenly popped into my head. I personally don't think it's very good, but please R&R! Thanks!
A Birthday Surprise
Seymour's eyes fluttered open, and he blinked against the sunny July morning. July 23rd, he thought. It's my birthday! He smiled and reached for his bulky black glasses. He looked over to the other side of his bed, but his wife Audrey wasn't there.
"Must be in the kitchen," Seymour mumbled tiredly. He stifled a yawn and put on his slippers. He shuffled into the kitchen, where he found Audrey in her white nightgown holding a plate with his favorite breakfast on it-two sunny-side up eggs, three strips of crispy bacon, and a piece of wheat toast with homemade strawberry jam on it. She had a big mug of coffee in her other hand. Audrey flashed him one of her thousand-kilowatt smiles and sang out sweetly, "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday my darling Seymour…happy birthday to you!"
Audrey set his food down on the table, ran over into his arms, and gave him a nice big kiss. "Hello, birthday boy!" Seymour grinned and shook his head. "Oh, this looks delicious!" he exclaimed. The two sat down at the table. "How did you sleep?" Audrey asked. "Oh, fine….I woke up a few times, though, because I heard you singing "Be My Baby" in your sleep. What a show!" His wife's eyes grew big and she giggled. "I really sang in my sleep?" she asked, dumbfounded. Seymour nodded.
As soon as Seymour finished his breakfast, Audrey went to get dressed. "Oh my, what to wear today?" she pondered while looking through her extensive closet of dresses and crinolines. After trying on a now too-small dress with a full skirt that had red circles on it, and a pair of red shorts with a little white button down, she settled on a new dress-it was light pink with little white scallops at the hem. She hiked up her crinoline slip past her waist. "Anything to hide my thickening figure….."
Seymour was sitting in the living room watching a commercial for toothpaste. Audrey came and sat down next to him. "So, do I get any presents?" he asked playfully. His wife looked at him and smiled. Suddenly, Seymour's grin faded. "Audrey, you don't look so good," he said, concerned. Her face had a tinge of green to it. "Oh-oh, I think I'm going to be sick," she cried, and rushed to the bathroom. Seymour jumped up and followed her. She vomited into the sink and he patted her on the back. "Honey, are you alright?" Audrey stood up and rubbed her head. "Yeah, I'm fine….must have a bug or something." They walked back to the couch. "Now about your present…." she told him. "The vomiting is part of it…." Seymour was confused. "Audrey, what do you mean?" "I mean the throwing up is part of your present because, well…..your present is the gift of life." "What? I don't get it." Seymour glanced around, stupefied. Audrey smiled. "Your birthday present is a baby! I'm pregnant!" she laughed.
Seymour jumped off the couch. "What!" he shouted with a huge grin spreading across his face. "I'm going to be a father?" Audrey stood up and hugged her husband. "Mhmm!" she said, trying to keep from squealing with joy to the world. Seymour began to cry. "I never though this day would come!" He kissed Audrey multiple times and spun her around in a little dance. "How far along are you?" "Oh, I'm only about four weeks, so that means Baby Krelborne is due in April." Seymour nodded, and then looked at his wife with the deepest love in his eyes. His big grin faded quickly. "I just hope the baby doesn't have the life we used to." Audrey gasped. "Oh, Seymour! I married you! Our baby will never have that kind of life because you're too sweet to make it that way. And we're in a good neighborhood," she reassured him. Seymour smiled again. "Oh, Audrey, you're always right…." he kissed her again. "I love you so much," he cheered. Audrey hugged him tightly.
"This is the best birthday ever!"
