Swimming in a River

Everything's perfect, picture perfect! Life is good! Things are finally going according to plan for Garrus as he watches his wife sit on the edge of the river bank, her legs dangling and playing with the gentle water below. For a moment Garrus thinks if this is all a dream, but then he notices unmistakable bump on Shepard's stomach. Nope, it's not a dream… It's better than that! It's a fantasy.

Garrus closes his eyes to embrace the beauty before him. His thoughts interrupted by something tugging on his arm. He looked down to see his daughter, Namiah. Her beautiful bright green eyes look up at him beaconing him to pick her up. He gives in and lifts her up into the air. She giggles with delight and squeals as he starts to tickle her belly.

"I love you Daddy." She says as her small hands cup the side of his face.

Garrus could hardly believe that he'd fathered this beautiful little being in his arms and he's fathered yet another yet-to-be Vakarian. Namiah squirms and finally breaks free of her father's grasp and dashes towards her mother, slowing her steps when she gets to her.

Shepard fells something pulling on the sleeve of her shirt. She turns around to see Namiah, smiling and holding a small yellow flower.

"What is it, Mommy?" Namiah asks holding the flower out to her mother. Shepard smiles and takes the flower from the small hands of her daughters.

"It's called a dandelion. They're good luck if you keep them." Shepard replied. She tucked the flower behind her daughter's ear and kisses her forehead. Namiah sits next to Shepard and lies down on her lap.

"I love you Mommy." She says looking up to her mom. Shepard smiles and holds her daughter close.

Her embrace is interrupted by the familiar kicking from within her stomach. It feels refreshing to know she could do the impossible twice.

"Daddy's over there!" Namiah says pointing in the direction of which Garrus was standing. Shepard follows the direction her daughter was pointing. And sure enough, there he was standing there, eyes warm and smiling proudly. He nods in approval and starts to walk over.

He gets there and sits next to Shepard and Namiah. Shepard looks at him and smiles. They hold hands and lean into each other. These two old worn soldiers… Finally find peace in the arms of each other, and their daughter.

"Maybe later I'll take Namiah swimming in a river." Shepard said as she caressed the bump on her stomach.
