Save Me

"Please tell me the truth. Please." The woman begged, anxiously tucking a strand of blonde hair that had escaped from its ponytail back behind her hair. And then the tears fell, cascading down her cheeks before splashing to the ground.

The receptionist gave a sad smile. "There's still no change. He is still in a coma and… and we're unsure as to whether or not he will regain consciousness."

The woman wiped her eyes and stared determinately at the receptionist at the desk. "Can I please go see him?" The receptionist hesitated.

"It's supposed to be family only." She said slowly.

The woman wiped her eyes, and peered at the receptionist again, imploring her to allow her to see him. "Please," she started again, "Mike is family to me. Please, can I see him?"

The receptionist nodded. "Room 201, Level 2. Be quick."

It was so scary. He couldn't see anything, he couldn't move. He was paralysed. What had happened? Why was he here? And where the hell was here anyway? Was he dead?

And then he remembered. He remembered the sound of gunshots in his ears. He remembered the fight that had started. And then he remembered falling into nothingness.

He wanted to wake up, to move, to tell Kate that he loved her.

And then he heard it, heard her voice. Except he couldn't be sure it was her. Maybe he was imagining it, because he was thinking about her. "Mike, please wake up. Please."

Was it his imagination? Or was she there. She wasn't- oh gosh, she wasn't dead as well, was she? And then he heard her again. "Don't you die on me Michael Flynn, please?"

He couldn't move. He tried to speak but he couldn't. Kate. Kate. Please help me. But it was no use. He couldn't move at all. Help. Help me.

Kate looked over at the man who was sleeping peacefully in the bed beside her. Could he hear her? Could he be awake in his mind, but asleep in his body? Was he thinking about her? Oh Mike wake up. Please.

She stood up, deciding that she had better leave before she broke down completely. She walked over to his bed, smoothed his hair and kissed him on the forehead. Then, choking back tears again, went to leave. "I'll be back, Mike. I promise."

What is just him or was Kate really there? If she was there, did she just kiss him? Kate. Then he heard her speak again, "I'll be back, Mike. I promise."

No! Don't leave me Katie. Come back. Please let me wake up, please. If only so I can tell Kate that I love her, that I've always loved her, and that I'm sorry. I left, I was stupid and now, thanks to me, we missed all this time.

And then, he managed to move, like a curse had been lifted, he could move, he could speak. He saw, through half opened eyes, the form of Kate, his Kate, his beautiful Kate, turning to leave.

"Kate" He rasped.
