Snow

"Sweetheart, why don't you just wait for Clark to get here and he can melt the snow?" Martha asked, standing over her husband.

"I can't leave the ship here, Martha," Jonathan said firmly.

With the first big snow, something had triggered the ship. As it had the first time, it had gone straight to Clark. Luckily, Clark had just been on the other side of the farm. He had somehow turned the blasted thing off. Instead of getting the ship back to the house, Clark had gotten Jonathan and Martha to safety from the frigid winds. Now, the next day, Clark was making the rounds to make sure his friends were all okay.

"And you can't lift it by yourself," Martha pointed out.

"I just feel helpless, Martha. It's out in the open where anyone can see it. The last time it was, Pete found it," Jonathan said, shoveling away more snow. The metal of the ship was now starting to show through.

"And that turned out fine," Martha said.

"Yeah, but what about Nixon? Or Hamilton? Or even Phelan?" Jonathan asked.

"That missing piece is obviously the key," Martha said, reaching over to get the extra shovel. "I thought it was gone, then all of the sudden this comes shooting form the cellar."

"It seems to be attracted to Clark. Maybe the missing piece is attracted to the ship," Jonathan said, throwing a shovel of snow over his shoulder.

"I'm just glad Clark got that piece away from it. I don't know where it would be now," Martha said, reaching down to trace her fingers around the octagonal depression that she had just uncovered.

"Probably following Clark around like a little dog," Jonathan said, smiling at Martha.

Martha laughed. "Now, that would be a site to see. What do you plan on doing with it once it's uncovered?" Martha asked, resuming her work.

"Wait for Clark," Jonathan said with a shrug. "I doubt you and I could lift it."

"Are you saying that because I'm a woman, I'm not strong enough?" Martha asked, stabbing her shovel into the snow and shooting Jonathan a very daring look.

"You're strong enough for me," Jonathan said, clamping an arm around Martha's back and pulling he to him for a kiss.

"You should come with a warning against your Kent charm," Martha said, a smile lighting up her face. Without another word she leaned in for another kiss.
