Author's Note: Um yeah, this would be my first Wizard of Oz fanfic...so I'm not too sure of it's quality.
Pairing: Dorothy/Scarecrow
Dorothy rolled over in her bed, pressing her cheek against her pillow as her soft brown hair fell from her shoulders. She exhaled loudly and opened her eyes to stare up and out of the window. The moon cast light against the clouds, and she had to blink twice to make sure that she hadn't seen the Wizard's face staring at her from the clouds.
Three months had passed since her trip to...since the tornado had struck. Auntie Em had tried to weeks to get her to visit the doctor; to make sure that her head was fine. Dorothy had finally coaxed her aunt into believing that she was alright, and wisely kept her mouth shut and refrained from speaking too much about Oz.
Oh, and how hard it was when she was around the farm-hands. They reminded her far too much of the Lion, the Tinman, and the Scarecrow.
Oh, the Scarecrow...dear, sweet, straw-filled Scarecrow. Her first day home, she had caught sight of Hunk's face out of the corner of her eye and her breath had caught in her throat. He reminded her terribly of her straw man, and she couldn't take the ache in her heart that came with every glance in his direction. Every smile sent her way, every wink he gave her, and every wave that he made only caused tears to spring to her eyes because he was too much like the Scarecrow.
She wiped her finger under her eye, clearing the tear that threatened to fall. All these thoughts of the Scarecrow weren't good for her... But she couldn't help but wonder if maybe, just maybe...in a small little world beyond the rainbow...a certain straw-stuffed man was thinking of her, too.
THE END
