Five Things Ennis should have said and shouldn't have said to Jack
Ennis sat under the shade of an oak and whittled away at the piece of wood. Just like he did so many years ago on Brokeback.
He gave Jack the little horse he'd created, the smile that broke out on Jack's face gave Ennis such pleasure he'd never known before.
Things were different now and his life was full of regrets. His marriage to Alma ended, he knew now he should never have married her, but he would not regret having his two little girls.
Jack, the thought of him made his heart ache. All the things he should have said to him. Now it was too late.
He clicked off the list in his head
1-He should have told him he wanted to go back to BBM the next summer like Jack said he was going to do.
2-He should never have said no to that sweet life Jack said. They could have gone in together, worked a cow and calf operation.
3- Told Jack no when he drove up all that way to see him after the divorce, the devastated look on Jack's face crusted Ennis' heart.
4-Shouldn't have said all those things to Jack about Mexico and stuff.
5-should have said I love you to him.
So many things he should have said to Jack. Should have… Ennis thought about it. Fuck that I'm going to go find my man and tell him right now.
Ennis knew Jack was up in Lightening Flat helping his folks out. He was supposed to go back to Texas, but he told him he had something to take care of up there first. So he got into his truck and headed North.
(I don't like writing canon much, so instead of Jack going back to Texas after their final confrontation Jack went to his folks. And that is where Ennis is heading now.)
