Baby I'm Here

Chapter One:

My back hit the wall with a thud as pain shot up my spine. I struggled to get off my knees, only to collapse as my face met the dirty carpet. It was so littered with beer stains; I couldn't even tell what color it was.

"Get up!" Jeb, "My Dad" shouted coldly down at me. I struggled to my knees the pain had me feeling like I was going to pass out. When I had managed to stand up, I noticed him swaying from side to side intoxicated by the alcohol.

As soon as I made eye contact with him his face morph into a sneer and his fist collided with my stomach. I scrunched my face up, but refused to show any other signs of pain.

"Go make yourself decent, we need to visit the new neighbors." He walked off indignantly to the kitchen. I limped weakly up the crooked and steep stairs to my room. Once in the bathroom I threw on some concealer to hide my bruises.

I opened my closet to reveal what little clothes I had. I picked out black skinny jeans and a white long sleeved shirt.

I walked slowly down the stairs to see Jeb waiting for me. We walked out and across the street. I knocked loud enough and a boy about my age opened the door. He had black hair that he had to repeatedly blow out of his eyes.

A woman who looked to be his mother walked up behind him, wiping her hands on a dishrag.

"Hi. We're your new neighbors. I'm Jeb and this is my daughter, Max." He smiled and held out his hand. The lady shooked it and then offered for us to come into her house. I hesitantly stepped inside, dreading having to show any social skills.
