It was awfully cold that gray morning, with the scent of rain lingering in the air. I shivered as our group of "unborn" pets headed into the Neopets Creation and Adoption building. There were many of us Draiks: green, blue, yellow, and red.
Upon entering the building, I soon found that it was nicer being outside, as the building was stuffy and crowded. There were many people standing around us, like they had been waiting for our arrival. Then, people just randomly grabbed the other Draiks around me and pulled them away. As panic and fear inched through my veins, I curled up around my blue-scaled self, hoping that no one would get a hold of me. But, to my luck, someone picked me up. But, this person's hands were gentle, even amongst the pushing and shoving going on around us. I looked up at the person who was to be my owner, a female with long, brown hair and clear blue eyes.
"Hi, you little cutie," she said to me with a smile. "I'm Moon." She stroked my back, at which I purred in content. Cuddled in Moon's arms, she carried me to a counter with the words 'Name and Registration' on a sign above it.
She placed me down, and a man came up to the counter. "Ah, a Draik," he said. "So you managed to get one, eh?" Moon nodded. The man measured me: my wings, arms, legs, tail, and weight. As he recorded this onto a computer, he asked, "So, what will her name be?"
Moon thought about it for a moment. I watched her with ruby eyes as she said, "0oNovao0. Yes, that'll be her name." I smiled. Nova, what a beautiful name, I thought to myself.
The man gave Moon some metal tags and she picked me up. We headed to the exit. As she walked, we were both silent. I didn't know what to say to my new owner. We reached a tall white and blue house. "Welcome to your new home, Nova!" Moon exclaimed, breaking the silence.
I observed the house for a minute or two, and then we went in. A blue Shoyru flew up to Moon and hugged her tightly. "You're back!" it said. It looked at me. "A new friend! What's its name?"
Looking down at me, Moon answered, "Her name's Nova." I smiled at the Shoyru. "Nova, this is Lyvina. She's a Shoyru."
I nodded blankly to let Moon know that I knew about Shoyrus. We all went into a larger room where there was a couch and a television. Moon sat down and set me beside her. Lyvina plopped down next to me and we exchanged smiles.
Lyvina had the honor of turning the television on, and she then turned a channel on. I wasn't sure of what show it was, but I didn't care.
We all sat there snuggled together. I was overjoyed at the sight of an owner and a sibling, but I hadn't said anything to Moon about my gratitude. I felt rotten about that.
As the three of us continued to sit there, I felt myself unwind a bit. And, with a smile on my face, I leaned up against Moon.
"I love you," I squeaked.
The End
