A/N: I have never really written anything incredibly lovey-dovey, but I've been reading a lot of James/Lily fics lately, and listening to Snow Patrol has given me this idea. So I decided to write a little songfic/drabble to Set Fire to the Third Bar by Snow Patrol about James and Lily. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: I don't own the song or Harry Potter.

Set Fire to the Third Bar

I'm miles away from where you are,

I lay down, on the cold ground,

And I pray that something picks me up,

And sets me down in your warm arms.

Lily wasn't one to break down, or give in. She didn't cry, she just laughed and smiled along. She didn't let on that she knew there was always a chance he might not come back. But she never showed the pain that lay under her fair skin. They had known what they were getting into when they had joined the war.

It had been fifteen days since he left. Fifteen days since she had had a proper night's sleep. Fifteen days since she had breathed at a normal rate. Fifteen days since she had whispered 'I love you' to the one that loved her the most.

Sirius kept telling her that he would be fine. He always came back and that this time would be no different. But Lily had her suspicions that Sirius was convincing himself more than anyone else. And it was hard to believe him when his voice shook at the thought of losing his best friend, his brother.

After all, he was supposed to be home three days ago. He was supposed to be here, with her, holding her, smiling at her, telling her she was beautiful. And that they would be fine.

Now Lily sat alone at the kitchen table, praying. That was something she hadn't done since she was a little girl. She prayed that this war would end. She prayed for Sirius, for Remus, hell, even for Peter. But most of all, she prayed that she could be in his arms again.

She smiled faintly at the memories that came rushing into her mind at that moment. Lounging by the lake at Hogwarts, laughing with him as they sat under his tree, watching Sirius being pushed into the icy water. She remembered the day she had agreed to go to Hogsmede with him. Only because he had changed. It was a decision she certainly didn't regret.

There was a knock at the door. Lily bolted upright, praying for the best, and bracing for the worst.

She threw the door open, and to her disappointment, it was only Sirius. But there was something different about him. He was smiling. Smiling! His best friend was out on a mission that could get him killed, and Sirius Black was smiling!

"Lily-flower," he said pleasantly, grin still on his handsome face, "I present to you-!"

Sirius didn't finish his sentence as Lily had pushed him away to reveal her love. His hair was a little longer, still messy, and his face was dirt-covered, but he looked unharmed.

She flung herself into his waiting arms and kissed him warmly. "I am so glad you're home," Lily whispered as the two stepped into the house and Sirius disapparated, smile on his face.

"I love you, Lily," he told her as he kissed her forehead.

She smiled and brushed the tear of gratefulness that had fallen from her emerald eyes. "I love you, James."
