Don't Own.
Too Much
Ban prided himself on not caring; or so he told himself, but as he watched over the nearly lifeless body of his partner he realized that he did, a little too much for his own tastes. He heard the witch's words as she spoke, but his mind was focused on dark thoughts. What would it be like if Ginji died? Horror. It would be worse than anything his evil eye could come up with. That's what scared him so much. Could Ginji revert back to Lightning Lord and be gone forever? Would that be worse than him dead? Ginji would be alive, but the spirit inside him, twisted and wrong.
A slight noise, a quick intake of air, stole his attention. He pushed his glasses up with a single finger to hide the worry filling his eyes as his friend slowly opened his eyes. Was it still his Ginji? Or someone darker? Relief spread through him as his name was breathed into the air. A coil of anger wound back his arm and swung. He threw all of his embarrassment into that punch. There was no way he was letting Ginji worry him that much without punishment. Nothing. No spark. Something was wrong. Then it was clear. As Ban spoke realization hit Ginji, it crushed him and Ban along with him. Ban wanted to scream selfish rants, to take back what he had said and go back to how it was. He couldn't. He chose his next words carefully. For he had to. If they weren't just right Ginji would follow, he had to make sure that didn't happen. They were sharp and harsh, crushing the boy's could still see his partner's trembling, could still hear his cries, as he and the witch walked away. Heartbreaking.
A mantra of nothing entered his mind and he let it fill him until all he could hear was his footsteps. There was a battle and it was one he could not afford to lose. Time had passed and they were deeper into the forest when a jolt ran through him. His eyes found a billowing cloud pour dark smoke into the sky. He fought the urge to run to it. He had to rescue the girl, because he could. He knew there was nothing he could do for Ginji except watch him die. And he couldn't do that. He just couldn't. Kazuki, who Ban had completely forgotten about until he spoke, went to Ginji while he went to the witch. As he ran tears flowed down his face, and yet his eyes were dry. He would not cry. As he ran something changed and he could no longer feel the grip of death on Ginji. He smiled. A stern focused look overtook his expression. He had to get this over with so he could go back to goofing off with his naïve friend, who he cared for too much.
A/N: SO who else is PISSED! That Tokyopop dropped Getbackers? I'm thinking of rereading and just writing tons of fics for it to fill the void slowly growing. So if you want to tell me situations or pairings. I'll be more than willing to attempt them. Review please!
