Why should Ise worry? (Racetrack one-shot)
I don't own Newsies in any way. Inspired by Why should I worry sung by Billy Joel in Oliver and Company.
BANG. BANG. BANG. These are the sounds I wake up to every morning.
I get up, get ready, and head with the trio to get breakfast.
Sometimes it consists of some bread Snitch has stolen, breakfast at Tibby's, or the nuns.
After breakfast, Mush, Blink, Race, and I head off to the distribution center.
Once again, Race gets out of having to pay for papes.
I just roll my eyes at him.
By now, it's time to split up. We usually pair off.
Today I'm with Race and Mush is with Blink.
I love selling with Race.
We usually go down to the tracks in Brooklyn by the bay.
Occasionally we drop by to visit Conlon, but not today.
No, we're off to sell, win some money, and make fun of the hoity-toity girls that have been forced to come.
*Tense shift*
"Oh Anthony, isn' it a lovely day?" I asked in a rich girl voice.
"Why yes it is, me lovely date", Racetrack joked. Race's horse won and we celebrated by heading down to Tibby's. Race and I got our own booth, away from all the boys.
"Youse buyin'?" I asked him.
"Of coise", he said, "Ise won didn' Ise?"
"Wid me help", I teased.
*Kid Blink's Pov*
"Looks like Race won big taday", Jack said.
"How could youse tell?" a new newsgirl named Ace asked.
"Every time Race wins a lot of money down at da tracks, he buys Dice dinnah, dey go on a date ta Medda's, or buys 'er sometin' nice", Mush said.
"Why?" she asked, "Are dey tagedah?"
"Nah. Dey's jist act like it", I said.
"Whose goil is she?" Dice asked.
"No one's. Although, she claims Racetrack as hers", Jack said.
*Dice's Pov*
"Heya Race", I said, "Da new goil is lookin' at ya".
"So?" he asked.
"Don'cha tink she's cute?" I asked him.
"She ain' youse", Race said.
I was blown away by that comment. I, quite literally, jumped onto the table, took Race's face in my hands, and kissed him.
The newsies cheered.
Life was great.
I may be broke, but I've got the love of my life.
Why should I worry?
