What Can I Do?
Questshipping (Gold x Kris) Songfic
Kris gazed out of her bedroom window, feeling the breeze on her face. She looked out onto Route 29, where she saw Gold training. Both of them had come home to Newbark for a while, before the next Tournament rolled around. Kris yawned, resting her head on her hand.
"I haven't slept at all in days. It's been so long since we've talked," she sighed deeply, closing her eyes for a brief moment. "And I have been here many times; I just don't know what I'm doing wrong,"
She opened her eyes, watching the distant figure wistfully. "What can I do to make you love me? What can I do to make you care?" she said quietly to the breeze, her heart aching a little. Always the same pain, the longing. "What can I say to make you feel this? What can I do to get you there?"
Kris drew back from her window and slumped onto her bed. "There's only so much I can take, and I just got to let it go," she fought back bitter tears. "And who knows I might feel better if I don't try and I don't hope," a few tears fell, splashing onto her pillow.
She stared sadly at the photograph on her bedside table; Her, Gold and Silver, in the fields outside Lavender Town. She remembered the day fondly. Reaching out, her fingertips brushed the glass over Gold's smiling face, frozen in the photo. "What can I do to make you love me? What can I do to make you care?" she picked the photo up and held it to her chest. "What can I say to make you feel this? What can I do to get you there?"
She replaced the photo to it's spot on her bedside table. "No more waiting, no more aching. No more fighting, no more trying."
Kris sat up and looked back out the window. But Gold was no longer alone on Route 29. By his side stood Lyra, her arm linked around his. Kris just stared, looking at the scene. "Maybe there's nothing more to say. And in a funny way I'm calm," Face it. Gold was never going to love her. He deserved more than her. He'd be happy with Lyra… "Because the power is not mine, I'm just gonna let it fly"
She leaned on the window frame, closing her eyes and whispering to the breeze. "What can I do to make you love me? What can do I to make you care? What can I say to make you feel this? What can I do to get you there?" Her voice rose slightly "What can I do to make you love me, what can I do to make you care? What can I change to make you feel this, what can I do to get you there?"
"And love me… and love me… and love me…"
