"Now my love-tale friends, this is the part of the mirrorcast where I try to solve your romantic problems. So Freedom and Madness, what's your problem?" Cupid asked and she saw the girl on the other side of the mirrorphone nervously lick her lips. The blurring app was pretty good, but she was still recognizable as Raven Queen, otherwise known as the bane of Cupid's own love life. To make it worse, she didn't even seem to know the effect she was having.
The irony was simply painful. Cupid, adopted daughter of Eros the God of Love and she couldn't make the person she loved even notice her. Fixing broken hearts and putting people together was easy. Except when it came to herself and her love life. Hearing Raven talking to her about what she was sure was going to be about Dexter made her heart simply plummet to her shoes.
"Well I…" Raven began. "Well…" Cupid gave her a smile that really didn't feel.
It was unusual to see Raven so unsure of herself. Normally the girl gave the impression of being confident and in control. In fact, if Cupid couldn't see the other girl's face, she would have doubted this was Raven at all.
"You don't need to be afraid," she said soothingly as she felt her stomach flip. She ignored it and concentrated on her show. "We're not going to judge you."
"Well I…kind of have a crush on someone…" Raven continued and Cupid felt her heart plummet even further. She was going to say she liked Dexter and proceed to break Cupid's heart without even realizing. And she, Cupid, was going to give her advice how to do it. Because she was Cupid and that was what she did. Even when it hurt.
"I have a crush on another girl," Raven continued and Cupid almost burst out laughing with relief. She didn't, but it was virtually impossible for her to stop feeling incredibly happy. She took a moment to compose herself.
"Another girl? Well that's unusual, but there's nothing wrong with that. What's the problem?" Cupid asked brightly and Raven appeared to wince.
"Well…I can talk to her and we're friends and everything, but…" there was a pause. "But I'm scared of how she'll react. Like…" there was another hesitant pause. "I'm kinda isolated at school, because I…" Raven took a deep breath. "I'm scared of losing her as a friend. I don't have many people who I'm as close to as this girl and…"
Cupid licked her lips and swallowed. This was a somewhat more difficult issue to talk about than her usual romantic problems.
"Have you ever talked about sexuality before to her?" Cupid asked carefully. This was one scenario she really didn't want to get wrong. "Has she expressed anything that might make you think that she would hate you if she knew?"
"Well, no…she's a pretty closed off person, very private," Raven admitted and even through the blurring, Cupid could tell she was blushing slightly.
"Well perhaps I could try talking to her, maybe ask her what she thought of this particular subject?" Cupid asked. "Or perhaps you could try asking one of your other friends to broach the subject. That would give you an idea as to where your friend stands. But if your friend is as close to you as you claim, then I don't think she should let something like your sexuality get in the way of your friendship."
"Well when you put it that way…" Raven began.
"I don't think I know many people here who would give you a hard time about liking girls," Cupid continued.
"You're right!" Raven said excitedly, her face becoming more animated. "I'm sure that Ceri-I mean, the girl that I like wouldn't hate me. She's a pretty nice girl. Thanks Cupid!" and with that, Raven abruptly cut off the call. Cupid allowed herself a small smile. If Raven and Cerise became a couple, then maybe, just maybe, Dexter would FINALLY notice her. With a feeling joy, she switched to her next caller.
