He stares at her, "You know you were wrong about me."

She looks at him and frowns, "How was I wrong? You played me just like the rest."

He rubs his eyes then looks out over the dark water, that laps up against the pier. The lights of the city shine off the water almost cheerfully. A cold breeze rustles the last few leaves left in the trees. The breeze bears the first real hints of the hard winter coming to the city.

"I never once played you like the rest, because you were different," he says quietly.

She raises an eyebrow, "And how was I different from those other girls?"

He clears his throat, "How can I put this lightly?"

She stares up at him, her dark eyes looking over his face. She smiles softly, thinking to herself He may not be the cutest but he has always treated me right. He always knew how to get me to smile when I was down. She brushes her dark hair back away from her eyes, but he has been playing me this whole time or has he?

She looks out over the water, "I don't want to be with a man that will play me at every turn and twist in a relationship. If I can't trust him then I don't want him."

He lays a hand light on her shoulder and turns her around, and kisses her forehead. "Your different Anez, because I........," he says the last few words to softly.

She looks up at him, "I'm different cause, why?"

He brushes his lips softly against her, "Because I love you."

She chuckles softly, "Yeah right, I don't believe you for a second."

Tears come to his eyes as he rejected one more, and he turns walks away from her. "Goodbye," he says.

Her eyes show the surprise that she feels. He meant it. He really did love me. In the time it takes for a person to blink she know she loved him. My gods, I just laughed at the man that loves me and that I love.

She runs after him and gets in front of him putting her hands on his chest, "Stop. I'm sorry."

He looks at her yet past her all at the same time, "You don't believe me, you quit believing what I told you a long time ago. Why should I stay here and talk to someone who won't believe what I tell them? I love you with every fiber of my body, that's why your different from all the rest. You may not believe me but its the truth. I know from the moment I met you, that I had to have you."

She looks at him tears running down her cheeks. She is in shock cause she never knew he felt that way. She stands on her tiptoes and kisses his cheek softly, "I do believe you now. After you started walking away I realized, that you were telling the truth that you did love me. I love you to."

He looks down at her, his turned to be surprised. He picks her up and swings her around shouting for joy. He sits her down and kisses her deeply.

"I would ask you to marry me, like I had planned but I think it best to wait," he says laughing.

She gets the second shock of the night, "You were going to ask me to marry you?'

"Aye, I was. I thought we were at the point where that step could be made. But I want to explore our love first."

She kisses him hard, "The answer would have been yes tonight, and will be yes when you do ask me."

They walk off into the night, leaving the cold dark water to itself. The stars watching from above, twinkle brightly as another joining is completed.
