A/N: No idea where this came from. ^^ Set in the same universe as my "Difficult to Hide" [I highly recommend reading that first] but here I'm just exploring the emotions a little bit...mainly of the professor keeping a wary eye on his not-so-ordinary apprentice. Hope you enjoy!
She dreams of acceptance. Of rejection…
of fear, of pain, regret…
From these, he cannot save her.
For they are nightmares whether day or night.
whether awake or asleep.
whether dream or imagined.
whether real or invented.
Always, always real.
Always, always near.
Always, always probable.
Always, always misunderstood.
Never never granted an iota of respect
or a moment to explain.
She understands the risks very very well—
ever since her parents started expressing distaste.
But what people don't know can't hurt them.
overall, he disagrees,
but knows enough to make an exception.
Her rest remains restless
and countless cups prove fruitless.
Sometimes, he wishes…that she would just be.
then there would be no fear, no sleepless nights.
But there would be pain.
and he always fancied himself the hero-type.
He lets her be "him"
against all "better" advice,
against everything in his mind that screams it's within her control.
It's a common misconception that not even he can fully shake, but…
if she is happier as him,
there is no contest, no need to find an alternative—
no need to replace.
