Life or Death, the 76th Hunger Games: SYOT
A/N: Hey everyone! Now I know what you're all probably thinking "domgk115 is doing a SYOT, he doesn't even update!' Yes, yes, I know I have had a hard time updating, but I'm determined to change that. A SYOT takes a lot of time and responsibility to update and I'm hoping that this will help me learn to update better and get my writing bug back. Now that I have why I'm doing a SYOT, now onto what it's going to be like!
So, this is going to be a good old fashioned SYOT! No complicated rebel sub-plot, no really way out of there arena, the tributes won't get crazy superpowers, it's not something crazy like the 999th Hunger Games hundreds of years into the future. Not that there's anything wrong with those types of SYOT's at all, that just isn't the type of story setting I want to write. So now that I have told you what kind of SYOT this will be, let me give you the setting!
The 76th Hunger Games, there was no rebellion. In the 74th Hunger Games Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark were plunged into the 74th Hunger Games. However, in this version Katniss was killed during the feast by Clove and Cato, who in my version came to the feast together. Thresh managed to knock out Clove while she was distracted and fought with Cato at the feast and was killed but not before mortally wounding Cato who eventually died from the wound. Peeta soon died from the infection in his leg, and Clove won the 74th Hunger Games after hunting down and killing Foxface. Clove was then crowned winner of the 74th Hunger Games.
Without Katniss winning the 74th Games the rebellion was not able to catch fire, so the 3rd Quarter Quell did not have to be changed. The Third Quarter Quell was not reaped from the existing pool or victors, instead to show that nobody was safe from the capital they raised the age so that all people ages 17-21 were reaped for the games. The games were won surprisingly by a 17-year-old, named Aaron Cane from District 7.
Alright now that you're caught up to speed, let's get on to prologue number 1! I'll have more information about tribute submission below!
Aaron Cane, Victor of the 75th Hunger Games.
"Ladies and Gentlemen your master of ceremonies, Ceaserrrrrr Flickermannnnnn!" A loud voice boomed throughout the plaza.
I wringed my hands together nervously as I heard the loud clap of applause from the absolutely ravenous capitol crowd. Joanna had told me that I would never truly be rid of the capital. Blight was all too happy to give up his mentoring spot for me this year along with Joanna, he needed a break. However, no matter what I was going to be forced back again this year. My victory tour had wrapped up a few months ago, however in the lead up to this year's games, when it was official that I would be the mentor they thought it best to schedule me an interview with Ceaser. I won what people were calling one of the deadliest, and most difficult games in the history of Panem. I had to go into the arena and fight fully grown human beings, and not an arena full of children, while me myself was just a child myself.
The image of my axe entering the chest of that 21-year-old woman from district 1 has been haunting me since the day it happened. I know that she was a career, and that she trained to kill her whole life. However, what if she was a mother? She without a doubt had a family, people who wanted her to come home. People who called her daughter, niece, aunt maybe? So many possibilities taken away from her life, she was only 21 with her whole life ahead of her.
"Big Sam, Risa, Ruby, Alex… Jamie." I say to myself lightly, as Ceaser warmed up the crowd for me.
The names. I said them to myself every night before I went to sleep, it was in order to never forget them. I would never forget the lives that I was forced to end so that I could live. I didn't care that it was them or me. I didn't care that their lives meant that I could live. I didn't care if the capital were the ones who forced me to end their lives, I still ended them. I ended five young lives.
I was drawn out of my thoughts when I finally heard my name called and I had to brighten my face up.
"And now, the moment you've all been waiting for, lets welcome to the stage the VICTOR of the 75th HUNGER GAMES, AARON CANE!"
I managed to put a fake smile on my face and smile as I jogged out onto the stage, smiling and waving as I ran out onto the stage. I watched and waved as the capitolites in the crowd cheered my name, tossing flowers and wads of money onto the stage. I felt my spirit leave my body in that moment, and my fake smile almost fell from my face. Thankfully Ceaser came to my rescue and shook my shoulder with a huge smile on his face. I gave a nice loud whoop and shook his hand before he gestured for me to sit down.
I sat down in the large comfy chair and manage to fix my fake smile once again before it failed me. Ceaser laughed a little longer before gesturing for quiet from the audience.
"Hahaaa! Aaron my friend, it is so good to see you again! Back so soon after the victory tour eh? Couldn't resist!?" He asked me with a large smile.
I gave a fake laugh and shook my head. "Haha, no you're right Ceaser! I think I speak for all the Victors when I say that thrill of walking out on-stage to a roaring crowd never gets old huh!?" I said gesturing towards the audience.
The idiots absolutely got a kick out of it. After another round of applause Ceaser laughed and managed to calm the crowd down. He turned back to me with an inquisitive look. "So, Aaron, how much of a change is it going from being the tribute one year, to the mentor next the next?" He asked him.
I thought my best of an answer that they would eat up. I pretended to think long and hard before giving my answer, just as I did in my interview a year ago, I went with whatever would get the biggest reaction.
"Well Ceaser obviously it's gonna be a huge change for me. Just last year I was in the same position as my tributes are going to be in this year! I had a pair of absolutely great mentors last year, and I only hope that I can be as great as they were for me last year." I said giving my white toothed smile.
The crowd cheered the names of me, Joanna and Blight, and I internally laugh thinking about Joanna watching this interview back stage. She probably thought that I was being a ridiculous suck up, which was exactly what we planned for me.
"And how close are you now with your former mentors? Do you plan on using the same tactics and strategy they used for you with the tributes this year?" He aske me after the audience died down.
I stiffened a little bit, thinking about last year… and Jamie. "Obviously Joanna and Blight were fantastic mentors. I was able to capture the crown while… Jamie also made it into the top 4 as well. So obviously they did something right, I'm excited to learn from Joanna and see if I can bring the same type of mentoring they did last year to this years District 7 tributes!" I said gaining my excited tone back.
After another rousing applause from the crowd, Ceaser carefully worded his next question. "Well we also wish you success Aaron! Now, if you could give one piece of advice to your tributes, or any tributes in general, what would it be?" He asked.
I managed a true genuine laugh, and looked directly into the camera. "My best piece of advice would be rather simple Ceaser. In the games… it's life or death. If you have that will to live, then there should be nothing able to stop you." I told the camera.
It was a lie however. I didn't have the will to live in my games last year. I fully expected myself to die when I was reaped.
I never expected myself to be forced to kill the woman I loved.

A/N: Okay everyone this is the tribute form! It will also be on my profile, now onto the rules!
1: I will only be accepting PM tributes, I'm sorry but this is a firm rule for me. It's easier for me to communicate with you if I have questions if you have an account.
2: Everyone is allowed to submit up to two tributes! If I have a hard time getting tributes I may open up this rule to three.
3: I will accept reservations, but only for up to seven days. As soon as the seven days is up, that spot is officially open again!
4: I will accept all tributes on a first come first serve basis. HOWEVER, with that being said if I think your tribute is a little too much of a Mary/Gary-stu, or too overpowered, or perfect seeming I will ask you to revise your tribute with some suggestions.
5: I WILL be doing a sponsor system which will be announced in the next chapter. The system will be very simple, if you review you'll get more sponsor points to send gifts to any tribute you wish!
6: When you submit please put as the subject of your message 'Tribute Submission' and then your tributes name gender and district. For Example "Tribute Submission Aaron Cane, D7M"
7: REVIEW, REVIEW, REVIEW! The more and more active you are reviewing the better chance your tribute has! Within reason of course, I will be more inclined to save a character of an author who is reviewing and active as opposed to one who hasn't reviewed in several chapters!
Okay that's it everyone! Please get these tributes in as fast as you can! I want to see all your tributes, I want to bring them to life and make them all battle it out to the death xD For this chapter, I know it was short but what did you think about Aaron? You will without a doubt see more of him in possibly one or two more prologues after this! Please leave me a review and let me know what you think and make sure to get your tributes in!
