Sweet Dreams
They kept falling. Over and over in Cas' mind. The ones he loved, the ones he didn't, his entire family. Every angel was spiraling, smoking and falling. "I-I thought." Cas managed to sputter as his eyes spread wide with horror at the scene unfolding before him. "I thought I was helping." The night wind was cold on his skin and his whole body felt numb. Hot tears streamed down his cheeks as he howled up at the father who had forsaken him, "WHAT HAVE I BECOME!?"
Castiel woke up in the motel room in a cold sweat. He was breathing heavily and trying to become aware of his surroundings. He glanced over at the red LED digits on the cheap alarm clock, "M idnight" he whispered. He knew where he was. He, Sam, and Dean were in Wisconsin hunting that shapeshifter. His eyes began to adjust and he saw Sam sleeping in the bed opposite his. The room was pitch black except for the bright streams of light shining through the windows from the city outside. One shaft happened to fall on the peacefully familiar face that he had fallen in love with so long ago, sleeping beside his brother. Cas' heartbeat slowed and his breathing calmed as he whispered that beautiful name, "Dean." Almost as if by a force of instinct Dean's eyes whipped open to witness the sight of that beautiful mess of dark hair and blue eyes staring back at him. "Cas? What's wrong?" Dean grumbled. He could see the fear in those ice blue eyes, and the rivulets of sweat beading on his forehead. "Nothing Dean, I'm f-fine," Cas managed to say, "Just a bad dream."
"That's not nothing Cas." Dean said. "Get over here."
Cas got up from the bed and tiptoed his way over to the bed of the Winchester brothers trying not to wake Sam. When he got to Dean's side of the bed he sat down beside the sleepy hunter and looked into those gorgeous green eyes of his. Dean put his hand gently on the small of Cas' back to which Cas reacted with a startled twitch.
"You really got spooked huh?" whispered Dean.
"Yeah, do you think I could-no, forget it." Cas began to get up again and Dean got up with him. He grabbed Cas by the arm and looked into those sad puppy-dog eyes. "What did you wanna say Castiel." Dean said gently.
"I was wondering if I-if I could sleep with you Dean.." Cas blushed as the words left his mouth.
"I don't know Cas.." Dean said, looking at the wall and no longer directly at him. "I mean-"
"No, I understand." Cas sounded slightly disheartened as he walked back to his bed.
"Cas wait." He could hear Dean whisper behind him, but Cas was already back in his bed trying to fall back asleep, leaving Dean standing in the dark motel room alone.
The sound of a passing car startled Cas awake. 3 a.m. His bright blue eyes shot was something lying next to him. He slowly turned to assess the situation only to find a still sleeping Dean Winchester wrapped around the sleepy angel. A certain warm tingly feeling filled Cas from head to toe as he realized what had happened. Dean's beautiful green eyes fluttered open, half asleep, "Is it time to wake up?"
"Not quite," whispered Cas as he shut off the alarm clock. Cas settled back into the comfort of Dean's arms, and nestled himself beside that warm, strong chest. The shapeshifter could wait. This was more important. "I love you Dean Winchester." Cas thought.
"I love you too Cas, now pass the pie." Dean mumbled, clearly still in a dream. Cas chuckled quietly to himself not wanting to rouse the Winchester boys. "Sweet Dreams Dean." Cas whispered as he drifted back off to sleep.
From then on Cas never had any more bad dreams, and every once in a while, he'd once again, wake up beside a sleepy Dean mumbling about pie and Cas would have no choice other than to succumb to the warm embrace of his secret love.
