A fallen god
A criminal, brought to justice
An enlightened being
A chip of society
A painful loss
A rotting corpse
' Can I call myself any of those things now?'
'...'
' Yes.'
No blood drips down these limbs of mine. My skin makes no contact with these stagnant, wet rain puddles. My breathing doesn't fade, and my heartbeat is as strong as ever.
I don't die. I don't succumb to those humanly obstacles.
No. I stand above all of these foolish humans, reveling in my own power. I am the only one who judges, the only one who decides right from wrong.
' What would it feel like... to have a body with infinite powers...'
' To have a body... that never needs to sleep... that never needs to eat...'
' A body that could live forever, and destroy anyone without a blink of an eye...'
' I would like that...'
' I will like that.'
I clench my hands on the edge of the moist, cold, steps, my mouth pulling taut with a maddened grin.
' L was my last obstacle even worth considering, and now he's gone. But I won't be as foolish as him. I will make them all die, while I rise on my throne of bodies to be the ruler of the new world!'
' I'm right here, you know.' His hand, alabaster and ghostly, yet so real waves in front of my face.
' Shut up. You are nothing, just my imagination.'
' Saying that is like admitting that you are insane. Not that you aren't, but it is also your time to leave this world. You were naive to believe that you ever could win, that you could kill that many people and never die yourself.' He shakes his saphire hair out of his eyes, gnawing on the tip of his index finger. ' I guess this is goodbye, Kira.'
I can barely breathe anymore. My eyes bulge, and my fingers dig into my neck.
My last tortured screams leave my body as he breaks out into the first smile I have ever seen on him.
It is identical to the smile I saw on Near's face when I first entered the warehouse.
His lips part slightly to speak.
' I guess... I do win.'
(AN) I know now that some of the factual information in my other story, Eyes So Red, is incorrect, but I wrote and published it right after I saw L die.
