"Shikamaru? Shikamaru? Hey, Shikamaru, you awake?"

The ten year old boy tried to keep his eyes closed. "No."

Naruto continued, while the four of them lay in the grass behind the academy.

"Do you, do you like anyone?"

Shikamaru yawned. "You mean a girl? No way, all of them are too troublesome. Why?"

"Really?" Naruto asked, making sure to keep his voice down in order to not get caught.

"What about what's-her-name, Ino?"

"She's annoying as hell, only reason I put up with her is because our dads are good friends, and I think of her as a sister."

He looked at the chubby young Chouji sleeping, a smile on his face.

"Besides, I'm pretty sure someone else has his eyes on her. Anyway, Like I said, why?"

Naruto sat up and looked at the clouds. "There's a girl in our class, I think I like her, but if I talk to her it seems like she just ignores me."

"Like I said, troublesome. Who is it?"

The blonde thought about that particular pink-haired girl. "I'm not telling," he answered.

"Tch, whatever. In my opinion, you should take a look at someone else in our class, someone like Ino or her old friend Sakura are just too annoying, someone in the background maybe, one that tries to hide from the spotlight. They're less troublesome, and better for you, I think."

Naruto turned around to look at his friend. "For a slacker, you seem to be pretty smart."

"Don't tell anyone, or they might make me do stuff."

Naruto laughed. "So which girl is your type?"

"If you're trying to figure out who I like, then I'll tell you that no one in the whole village is the answer."

"Alright then, what type of girl is?"

Shikamaru sighed. "You're being really troublesome, you know that? I don't know, just as long as she isn't annoying like Ino, scary like my mum, or as violent either. If I met a girl like that, I'd probably run away."

A voice came from inside the academy.

"Kiba! Naruto! Shikamaru! Chouji! Get back in class now! You boys have two minutes to show yourselves!"

"Speaking of running away, Chouji, Kiba, we got to go."

Shikamaru dragged the sleepy Chouji up.

"My chips!" Chouji cried as he realised he had left them behind.

A figure could be seen behind the window.

"Too late, let's go," Kiba whispered, as he saw the figure. The four of them bolted as fast as their small legs could take them.

A small girl opened up the window beside her, hearing voices outside.

When she did, she observed a blonde boy turning a corner, trying to hide.

She blushed at the sight of him.

"Hinata, did you see someone?" A tall figure said from behind her.

"N-no, Iruka sensei," the little one replied.

A frustrated look rose to his face. "Well, thank you anyway, young Hinata. You can join the others back in class."

She nodded as he continued down the corridor, but turned around to look back out the window before she left.

There, Naruto head peeked at her from the edge of the wall. Looking straight at her. She was looking straight back.

He smiled at her, putting a finger to his lips, before darting away again.

And when he was gone, little Hinata began to walk back to class, trying not to feint on the way.

End.
