She knew it would end this way.

She knew it.

But for some reason, she still gave it a shot. Gave them a shot. Though she knew it was all false hope, she couldn't help but be pulled back in by those jade orbs and the Mohawk she secretly adored, preparing herself for the heartbreak everyone warned her was coming her way due to her significant other.

But no, she refused to believe them. Refused to accept the possibility that Noah would ever hurt her, because he promised he never would. And, although she thinks it silly now, she had faith in him, faith that one day, her trust in him would pay off.

That everyone would be stunned to silence by the fact that Noah really cared about her. That she was the only one he would ever do anything that came close to settling down for.

That was her plan.

Instead it just backfired, leaving Noah with a fiance and a daughter, leaving Noah with a family, and leaving her standing in the rain as she watched him pull out an umbrella to shield two blonde heads. Feeling as her almost-healed heart was torn once more as he grinned at Quinn and at their daughter, remembering the multitude of nights they shared together, ones where he continuously swore she was all he would ever need.

She cursed herself for being so foolish.

He opened the passenger door of his truck for them, and her eyebrows knitted together when Quinn smiled at him, putting a hand on his arm, where she could clearly see her engagement ring, and she squeezes her eyes shut, wondering when Quinn wouldn't take the man she loved away from her grasp.

Granted, Finn was Quinn's and it was Rachel's own mistake of going after him when he was in a committed relationship, but when Finn finally asked Rachel to be his girlfriend, it had been in vain, for Quinn was still very present in his mind. But Noah, Noah. He was only ever hers. Quinn didn't want him. She made that very clear very many times.

Before he got in, he spotted her.

His body went rigid, maybe with guilt for causing Rachel fucking Berry to be standing in her best argyle sweater in the pouring rain, seemingly disconcerned that the fabric was ruined. Maybe with longing, for there were times when he missed her, her smiles, her voice, even her crazy.

But he shook it off and gave her a smile and a wave before getting into the driver's seat, restraining the urge to run to her and give her his coat and a ride home, ignoring Quinn's glare as she was well aware who he was staring at, convincing himself that he did love Quinn and he needed to be there for his daughter, and that she deserved a happy family with married parents, but he still couldn't shake the feeling in the pit of his stomach as his ex-girlfriend, his first true love, the girl who could accomplish anything just on her talent, just stood there, looking so hopeless.

Tears were running down her cheeks, and they mingled with the rain. Through the windshield, she could make out Noah's form staring at her, and she stared right back, unwilling to look away. She stood there a moment more before finally breaking the stare and choosing to walk away, choosing to leave behind a part of her she thought she would never be able to let go.

Goodbye, Noah.

Goodbye, Rachel.
