Potter. The name that had tortured him seven years of his life. And even after death of the man he had still haunted the mind and life of Severus Snape. Potter. Years of teaching and finally, the boy came to the school, a mirror image of his father. Hatred filled the six years they had dwelt together. Each hating the other with a passion. Yet, as he lay there dying, he remembered a memory, a memory that he never even realized he still had.

The summer breeze blew thru the willows and the red haired girl, his love, sat beside him, wreathing green willow branches together. Finally finishing what she was fiddling with, she turned to Snape and smiled. Holding two now small rings, created with underage magic, in her palm. Lily held one out to her friend,

"Friendship rings"

The young boy took the ring and for the first real time, smiled placing it on his finger. Repeating what she had said he whispered back,

"Friendship rings"

Lily looked down at her shoes, her face hidden by a veil of red hair. She stayed quiet for the longest time and finally she turned to look at him with her large jade eyes.

"Sev, promise that we'll always be friends?"

Severus turned away, his face turning red from embarrassment,

"Of course stupid-" He caught himself " I mean, of course I'll always be your friend. I ... I really like you Lil."

He turned to look at her and added, "You're not that bad."

"Thanks..." She too suddenly looked embarrassed and changed the subject, "Severus?"

"Yeah?"

"Tell me about chocolate frogs again."

"They're a frog, not a real one of course it chocolate, but it's jinxed to move. To hop around and stuff..."

Suddenly Lily started giggling, right to the point there she was laying on the grass holding her sides. Severus looked at her, confused,

" What's so funny?"

She continued giggling, finally between fits of laughter she managed to get out

"Imagine if you ate one whole." She giggled again then she put her hand on her stomach and proceeded to make bouncing motions, "It would bounce around in your stomach!"

He smiled at her. "How about I bring you one?

She rolled around to her stomach and looked at him in awe.

"Would you?"

"Of course, we have loads back at home." He suddenly felt the urge to say something else as well.

"I'd do anything for you."

The memory shifted to the future, in one word he'd lost the one and only true friend he had. The sorrow filled him, and through the years turned to bitterness, and even hatred toward every living being. Most importantly hatred toward the boy. His face the mirror image of the man, now dead, that had tormented him, on whim, his whole school life. The face did not deserve her eyes. No. Not in one bit. And as Severus Snape lay there dying, his blood draining from his poisoned body; his mind fought with him as Potter kneeled over him.

Do you really want to die for one scrawny, stupid boy? And the son of James Potter no less! He paused, looked up at the boy, who without Snape really realizing it in his hate, had become a man, his green eyes stared back at him in shock. Fighting against time, he spoke to the boy.

" Take...it. Take...it..."

He needed to know, even if Snape wasn't around to tell him of his fate, he needed to know. Finally he felt the last of his strength leaving him and he whispered reaching up to grab his robes, bringing him closer toward the dying man.

"Look...at...me..."

Snape's cold black eyes stared into Harry's eyes. Lily's eyes. Then the last of the cold and misunderstood man's life left his body and he drifted off, one last thought went through his mind.

He was also the son of Lily.
