A/N: Just something that happened after Jess left the bridge in They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They?

Something to Take Care of
It didn't take long to find her. The minuscule size of the town and the fact that there weren't all that many places she could actually be at six in the morning on a Sunday also helped.
She was sitting on a swing in the park, stabbing her shoe into the ground angrily. And she was chewing bubble gum. He hated bubble gum.
With a sigh he shoved his hands deeper into his pockets and approached her. She didn't look up, her gaze fixed on her shoes as the swing jerked back and forth.
He opened his mouth, but he never got a chance to say anything.
"I guess this is where you break up with me?"
Her words startled him and at first he just nodded. Then he scolded himself. She wasn't even looking at him. "Yeah."
"Fantastic." She stabbed her foot into the ground with more force than before, sending a spray of sand flying towards his shoes.
"Sorry."
She looked up again and shrugged. "Whatever. It's not like you're the love of my life or anything."
"Huh."
He stood silently for a while and then shrugged. He was really tired.
"Guess I'll see you around," he offered.
"Whatever," she repeated, blowing a pink bubble that exploded with a loud pop.
He rolled his eyes at that and turned to leave.
"Is she yours?"
He stopped dead in his tracks at her words. "My what?"
"I thought you were supposed to be the smart one," she scoffed. "Is she the one? Your great love and all that cheesy stuff?"
He contemplated just shrugging and walking off, but he somehow felt that he owed her something, so instead he sighed and turned back around. "Don't know."
"Guess that means yes."
"Whatever."
"That's my line."
He smirked at her, and she winked, popping another bubble.
"Don't screw it up."
He scoffed. "Thanks for the vote of confidence."
"Whatever," she said, once again stabbing her foot in the sand.
He rolled his eyes at her and started walking towards the diner, yawning as he went.
When he reached the door he was almost smiling. Realizing this, he quickly replaced it with a well practiced scowl.
