"…What?"
Followed by the silence. The silence of hope. The silence of misunderstanding. She didn't mean to say that.
"Let's stop this."
When did it start? When did she start losing hope in him? In them? What happened?
"I'm…not doing a very good job, am I?"
Followed by a small laugh from her. But it wasn't her. It was too bitter, too sad, and too hopeless to be her.
"I am...just forcing my feelings onto you. I hoped that you would eventually feel the same…but I was being too cocky."
No, no. That wasn't it. He did feel. He felt so much when he was with her, when he thought about her. He felt things he hadn't felt in years.
He felt…happy. At peace in the morning. He could wake up and look forward to something.
"..and that way you have one less burden to worry about."
Followed by a tired, defeated smile failing to cover her inner pain.
And if the happiness left, what would happen to him? To her? To Them?
His prolonged silence would worsen this "talk". It would make her misunderstand…as if he didn't care.
That needed to change.
And it was then, as she was turning around, he opened his mouth:
"Wait Hinata."
He saved the day.
