Into the rain
Rain filled flower pots being to spill over the sides as the sky fell out from above soaking all around it. Pitter-patter of droplets beating down upon the windowsill of a small bay window jutting out ever so much.
Rain….
That's all it ever seems to do anymore. Just humming drone of it….
The winter months have set in but in the countryside look nothing like the northern roar of snow powdering the ground with silence. The rain pours on as if to make the land surrounding the home seeming endlessly.
A stranded home sat upon a slope that flushed quickly down into large valleys of rice fields running up to the slop of the train tracks. The water inched over the tracks. The train, right on time, roared through separating the small of water as it trudged on past the tiny village as the slopes below puddled shelves of more rice.
The bay window sat ever watchful towards the tracks and ocean filled land. A girl had walked over disturbing the pillows to find comfort in the lightly lit house as the storm continued on. The TV hummed of whispers of news from the kitchen of possible snow in the forecast. The earth thirst as it may have been could not drink enough water to stop the small bits of flooding.
A ball of round fluff waddled over to the girl pawing at her swinging leg before mewing. She stopped and noticed the grumpy but content old thing as she picked him up placing the cat in her lap petting it. The purrs rumble out of the ball of fur in content at his new found partner.
The lack of movement and hustle and bustle made the new adjustment rough in this country setting tucked away in the mountains. The running train was the main reminder of city life. A sigh escaped her lips as she leaned her arm on the sill gazing out. It had been a few years now since the family moved into the inn they inherited. It seemed exciting but in reality to go from fast to slow was rough.
She was the talk of the town the first two years with in the small school but it all seemed to fade into the background. The track team was left with the old school due to the fact not enough interest to join. She occasionally still ran in the evening when the lights would go down. The cool night air would pick at her sweat dripped skin to push her more. 'More for what though,' She would end up asking herself.
A longing for something to rejuvenate the heart had begun…
She brushed her honey blonde hair back that was becoming as wild as the surrounding area. Closing them for a second in though before lifting her emerald green eyes dancing across the rain filled rice fields. The long ripples of water interrupted by the next drop almost on time with the ticking grandfather clock. Beating louder and louder than the television that seem to fade off in the distance more.
Her eyes danced up from the puddles noticing some movement in the rain. A boy in a long trench coat making his silhouette stretch out in the puddle of rain. His still form seemed to resonate with his surroundings in almost powerful aura.
She felt it reaching out to her like looking at the bottom of a well to explore if it was full or a path way to something other worldly.
'What was this,' she wondered.
He moved more out of her sight as she twisted to still see him. The cozy old cat fell from her lap to the floor with a thud and grunting. The pillows which she had leaned on begun to fall with her straining to get a better look.
He turned his back to her as moved enough away from the sight of the road but not far enough from her bay window view. She settled sitting on her legs as she hugged the glass to see. Finally something to this country town not noticed before. It didn't look like someone she noticed in the short time she went to school there. It was her own secret world she entered in with this boy.
His coat fell from his shoulders as if only draped over them to hide the sword he revealed. The steel of the blade glistened in the overcast as it slowly was raised into a ready position. She realized the glass fogging from the breath and wiped it away quickly before holding it in anticipation. The sword looked like the rain didn't touch it despite the steadiness of it.
Questions of what he was doing danced around her mind and eyes as she watched intently. The sword moved as if in time with the clock and her heart. A dancing sword in the rain as each move was made carefully and with a deliberate purpose. It was a feeling like it was lasting for ever when it was only a matter of seconds before rushing behind the trees off towards the mountain.
Jumping from the bay window to her feet without a second thought, scaring the old cat out of its mind from one of the pillows on the floor, she took off. She missed putting on her shoes as she ran out the front door in a feverish pace.
"Hitomi! Where are you going," Her mother yelled out from the kitchen in frustration as the door clambered close with out an answer.
Her feet pounded the ground with each step sent a stabbing chill and needle like pricks. The gravel to the wet soggy grass turning to pure mud over the amount of rain. It was cold out for her cloths she was wearing. She rushed over where she could see the jacket was sticking out of the rice field.
She lifted up the rain soak jacket making the it the only thing that made it seem real. Gripping it in her hands the cold numb started to set in on to her feet. She cursed under her breath that she should of payed more attention to him than the sword.
A glint of white caught the corner of her eye as she watched a white feather float down from the jacket off the small leather string it was once clinging to. It fell into the water with drops of rain trying spirit it away.
She gazed at the almost soaked jacket that was now without an owner. She held it to her now drenched clothing. Looking down at it then back up towards the mountain once more.
"Come back…," She whispered among the rain.
AN:
This is going to be chapter 1 for right now. I just kind of started writing this out of the blue due to the weather where I live being so gloomy and wishing for an adventure myself. I do plan to take this somewhere if enough people wish me to continue. After I upload this I'll work on chapter two and see where it goes.
Update: I pretty much re-wrote chapter 1 with the same but with better writing. I kind of feel sorry that it is as bad it was originally. I am re-writing in between my breaks in hopes to finish up to actual chapter 6. I might be altering how the story may go for a twist :P See you soon!
