Just a short fic on Moonbay, trying to put some depth into her seemingly shallow character. Time period; after Ep 30, Moonbay's Waltz.

Moonbay couldn't sleep that night. Thoughts of McMann kept running through her mind. Had she done the right thing, leaving him? She left the campsite and walked for a while, thinking about it.

She'd never admit it to anyone, but she really did love him. And the thing was, Moonbay couldn't even figure out why. All the the things they didn't have in common were running through her mind... his taste in music... his love of dancing, and fancy clothes... his choice of lifestyle... but still...

There was something about him that made her want to be with him. His little jokes all the time. The way he smiled like he'd done something really good when he made her laugh. The feel of his arms wrapped tightly around her, and the way he whispered her name and told Moonbay of his love for her...

Moonbay had reached the edge of the plateau, and stood looking down at the river below, great gusts of wind whipping around her, ruffling her skirt and hair. He needed her, he'd told her that before she left him. But they couldn't be together. She knew it. Not now, anyway. Maybe someday, later, when all of this was over... maybe then they could be together.

She looked into the sky, but instead of seeing the two moons of Zi she saw a vision, of McMann's face. His hair was also being blown about by the wind, and as Moonbay watched, he smiled at her. "Some day, Moonbay..." his voice floated to her on the wind. "Some day we'll be together." A tear rolled down Moonbay's cheek, and MMs face disappeared, replaced by the moons, shining in the night.

At that same time, far away, McMann was sitting on the roof of his mansion, looking up at the same two moons, with pain in his heart. "Some day, Moonbay..."

;) Ciao!
