Author: Wow. I haven't written anything at all this year, except for this. This is back from January and I pulled it off of my Grey's Anatomy rp site. Anyways, eventually I'll get back to writing.

Where Does The Good Go?

Where do you go with your broken heart in tow
And what do you do with the left over you
And how do you know when to let go
Where does the good go?
Where does the good go? - Tegan and Sara

You never asked.

You never asked how she felt about your daughter moving in. You never asked how she felt about helping to raise your grandkid in the small apartment that she had learned to call home.

You never asked, and it broke her.

Lexie was a good woman. She was smart and kind and generous and strong. She was a fortress, and you tore down her walls. The way you kissed her gently in the morning and held her close in bed broke down her defenses until all you could see was the innocent woman that was good enough to love you.

She was twenty-five, and for the first time since your relationship started, the age barrier was there, separating you and her like the Great Wall of China.

You never asked, and when she looked into your eyes and knew that you wouldn't choose her, it was like you physically ripped out her heart and watched it die in your hands.

Later, when you called Addison to let her know you were coming, the only thing you could think of when she asked why you changed your mind was the farewell kiss that Lexie had placed upon your lips.
