Title: Rainy Weather

Rating: G

Character: Sam and Frodo

Description: Years before the quest, young Sam is stuck in a rainstorm.

The rain was relentless, and poured down from black clouds that reached as far as the eye could see. A small form hunkered down under a bush. If anyone had walked by – which would be unlikely in this weather – they would have scarcely noticed anything out of the ordinary. All that stuck up out of the brush was some curly hair and through the branches, you could see a hint of blue. The small form shivered and blinked a few times to try and get the rain out of his gray eyes. He wrapped his arms around his waist and bit his lip. He was scared and alone. Sam had been out to fetch some grass seed when it had started to storm. There had been no place to hide but the bushes and that is where he sat right then. I bet ma and da will be worried sick, Sam thought, his eyes drooping closed.

Soon, the first rays of morning were peeking through the bush. The rain had stopped completely and it smelled fresh foliage. Sam slowly stirred. He rubbed his eyes and stood. Quickly he ran up and onto the road and ran to Bagend – it was closer then going home right then and he also wanted to get dry before he went home. When he was at Bagend, he paused at the door and then he knocked.

Sam could hear the padding of feet as someone made their way to the door and soon Frodo opened the door. "Oh, Samwise." He said, ushering the wet hobbit lad in, "Your parents are beside themselves with worry." Frodo lead Sam into the kitchen and then sat him down in a chair. Frodo got a blanket and dried him off.

"I got caught in the storm earlier," Sam told Frodo

"I figured so, though your parents…" Frodo began, as there was the sound of people barging in.

"Have you found him?" Mrs. Gamgee called, "Frodo?"

"I am in the kitchen Mrs. Gamgee and yes I have. He is fine. Wet…but fine." Frodo told them.

"Oh Samwise, you had us worried. Your gaffer is out lookin' at the market for ye." She said, hugging her son.

"Mom!" Sam cried, his ears turning pink.

Frodo chuckled a little. "Well, I shall go get The Gaffer." Frodo offered.

"Oh, thank-you." Mrs. Gamgee said.

Frodo grabbed his cloak and headed to the door. He trotted out the door, down the lane, and to the Market. He found the Gaffer looking around the food stalls. "Mr. Gamgee, we found Sam. Well, Sam found us." Frodo called.

"Is he all right?" the Gaffer asked Frodo as Mr. Gamgee came over to him.

"Yes, he is quite fine." Frodo replied, "He got stuck in the storm yesterday."

Mr. Gamgee nodded and they both started back home.
