AN: I've been meaning to write a piece like this for a long time, but couldn't figure out just how I wanted to do it until now. It's very short but I like the way that it turned out. The title is based on the song by Death Cab for Cutie. This is my second Remus and Tonks fic that I have written, but I plan on continuing on and doing a series of these depending on how people respond, so please feel free to leave comments, freedback, and constructive criticism. I hope you all enjoy it!

I'll Follow You Into The Dark

Tonks barreled through the familiar hallways of Hogwarts, dodging students and Death Eaters, helping where she could, but never stopping for long. She was determined to find Remus, and she wouldn't stop until she did.

She heard yelling ahead, and Remus' voice carried through the halls. She sped up. He was there. She had found him.

As she rounded the corner, she saw him standing there, three Death Eaters collapsed around him. He turned to look at her as he heard her approach and smiling weakly, made his way to her.

Neither of them noticed as Antonin Dolohov pulled himself off the floor.

The corridor flashed with green light. Remus fell.

Every all of Tonks screamed at once. She bolted towards Dolohov but he ran, and she refused to follow him, instead she turned back to Remus. He was limp on the floor, his eyes dead. She collapsed onto him, tears running freely from her eyes, her cries of anguish draining out the sound of battle around her. She could think of nothing but him, and say nothing but his name over and over again beneath her sobs.

She didn't hear the click of heals behind her or the soft laughter of the figure that approached. She remained oblivious to the other woman's presence until her head was pulled back by the hair and she felt the wand tip at her throat.

"And what do we have here? My dear little niece and her mutt husband? He's dead I see. What a pity. Don't you worry pet, you'll be joining him soon enough. Think of it as a late wedding present."

Tonks' tears had halted, and her broken heart steamed with hatred. She called upon whatever strength she had left in her body and formed the words as carefully and exactly as she could, each syllable laced with her pain and determination.

"You're a coward Bellatrix Lestrange."

The grip on her hair tightened as Bellatrix leaned in close, turning until her lips brushed against Tonks' ear and through gritted teeth whispered the two words.

"Avada Kedavra,"
