Here With Me
Chichi sat alone in her room. A single lamp illuminated a corner,
but the woman was too far away for that to do her any good. She was to far
away from everything to do her any good.
*I didn't hear you leave,
I wonder how I'm still here.*
The muffled sounds of her son crying in his sleep reached her ears.
She couldn't stand that noise anymore and her pale hands shakily reached up
to cover them. Tears fell on her now rounded belly, tracing wet circles on
her night gown.
*I don't want to move a thing,
it might change my memory.*
"Oh Goku! Why did you leave me?" Chichi sobbed. She threw herself into
her pillow and wept. "We would've been so happy..." The woman gave a glance at
her stomach. "He's going to grow up without a father..."
*Oh I am what I am,
I'll do what I want,
but I can't hide.*
"I need help raising him. Goku tell me what to do!" She squeezed her
eyes and more hot tears stained the sheets of her bed. "Should I..." Chichi
hesitated. "Remarry?"
*I won't go,
I won't sleep,
I can't breathe until you're resting here with me.*
It was the only sensible thing to do, but how could she push Goku out
of her heart. How could she possibly love anyone else after Goku? Her sweet,
loving, naive, Goku? But how could she let her unborn child grow up without
knowing a father?
*I won't leave,
I can't hide,
I cannot be until you're resting here with me.*
Would Gohan ever forgive her if she married again? Surely he would
hate her for it. Wouldn't any child? And Gohan loved his father more than
most. He would think she didn't ever love either of them. Goku, oh how could
she been disloyal to Goku?
*I don't want to call my friends,
They might wake me from this dream*
"Maybe Bulma-san could help me," Chichi thought. "No, she would be
horrified. It is my decision. Mine alone. Not even Gohan can help me." She
gazed around her dim room. "You see what you did to me!" she shouted at
Goku. "Don't you care?"
*And I can't leave this bed,
risk forgetting all that's been.*
The woman abruptly fell silent. How could she say such a thing to a
man who gave his life to save her and the world? He loved her.
*I won't go,
I won't sleep,
I can't breathe until you're resting here with me.*
"He loves me," Chichi whispered. "How could I ever betray him? He is
right beside me. Goku will come back. He always does."
*I won't leave,
I can't hide,
I cannot be until you're resting here with me.*
Chichi slipped into bed with a smile on her face. As she began to
drift into sleep, it seemed that a gentle hand brushed her hair back. She
gasped and turned around. All that lay there was the open window and the
curtain flapping in the night's breeze.
