Every minute of every hour of every day of Asturin's life was exactly the same. Stand behind desk, threaten warriors and mages, and get blasted and/or hacked to pieces by those same warriors and mages, only to come back to life and do it again.

Then she came.

She only came because she had followed her sister Inia and her friend 'Sagey' into Asturin's area. She had, at first, been wary of him, but when she saw how easily Sagey killed him over and over, she grew braver and actually talked to him (or at him, as her refused to respond).

He never got a good look at her, part because she hid in the shadows most of the time, and part because Sagey was hell-bent on killing him. All she was to him was an orange blur and bright-green pin-pricks that were her eyes. But she was special, for she had told Inia she liked his eyes, even if it was in jest; and called him Astie.

Then she grew braver. One day she kept coming forward 'till he called the guards out of fright, not liking the determined gleam in her eyes. She blasted some of her magic at him, but it was, once again, Sagey who killed him.

When he came back, she was ready, and killed him before he could cry for the guards. His heart wrenched as she laughed, crying "I killed Astie! Now do you believe me when I say I don't like him?". But he still found her fascinating.

She came back the next day, and the day after, killing him multiple times. She slowly began to tire of watching him die, and would kill all his guards first, and then blasting him. But he was sure that, when she delivered each final blow to him, there was a slight sadness in her eyes. But he must have imagined it. For she'd still laugh at her victory.

And today she came again.

She paid him no heed, but killed his first guard, his second, and then his third, all without blinking an eye. Then she faced him from across his desk.

When she remained watching him, not moving at all, he took advantage of that and studied her. What had been an orange blur was a long orange dress with a yellow tunic belted over it. In her pale hands she held a staff that would undoubtedly aid her in taking his life, and on two slim fingers where two gold rings with blue gems that protected her. She also had a dark red cloak and a green pointed hat perched at a jaunty angle on her head. Her hair has brown, braided and hanging over one shoulder. And her face- it was like any other female mage's, except those eyes.

"I'm going to kill you," those eyes told him. "I'll have to anyway; doesn't matter if it's today or tomorrow. And then I'll come back and do it again."

"Go ahead and kill me," he said quietly. "But please… don't mock my passing. It hurts… it hurts so much…"

She nodded shortly and raised her staff against him. He made a few half-hearted stabs at her with his sword, but he knew it was no use, she killed him.

"I'll remember that, Elipsa!" he cried as his souls was ripped from his body yet again.

"I know you will, Astie," she murmured, kneeling to brush a hand against his cheek in apology. "May you someday be at peace. Someday…"

Someday, his soul repeated as it returned to his body, ready to continue the endless cycle.
