The Weight

Ron sighed as he collapsed in his bed, his eyes closing in relief.

The tests were finally over.

Months of studying, months of sitting on chairs and turning pages constantly had finally ended. When the news that exams were getting closer and closer, that's when Ron started panicking. He wasn't that good in his subjects, he wasn't like Hermione. He couldn't understand how she was able to juggle all the schoolwork and studying, it was as if her brain was a vacuum, sucking all that information in. It must have been easier for her.

However, it wasn't that easy for Ron. The lessons that others may understand, looked like gibberish to Ron. The moment he would open his book and look at the lesson, the words started swirling and the teacher's voice would get distorted; none of it made sense. There were some moments of glory when he would be able to understand a question, but that would end quickly when that concept would suddenly become more intricate and complex.

In the end, Ron would question more of how he was able to actually pass the exams every year, rather than question what he can do to get better. For other students, like Hermione, studying seemed easy to them. Mere moments of opening a book and reading the words would set them into a flow. For Ron, opening a book and reading was hard. What did he need to study again? Is this part on the exam? What is this again? What does this mean? It was all frustrating.

Sooner or later, every year, Ron would expect the stress. He always knew that there would be that certain time of the year of when he was completely done. That time of the year was always the hardest, it felt as if the weight of the exams were pushing into him, like the weight of the world was on his shoulders. Ron knew that he shouldn't be complaining too much, like his parents said, it would only get harder when he grew older. So, he would continue on, he couldn't stay on the floor wallowing in his sorrows forever, he needed to get up.

He got up. Every day, he would take it slow. Instead of focusing on the big picture, he would just take a breather and take it one day at a time. Hermione did help every now and then, but it really didn't help when she kept questioning his intelligence and degrading him constantly with; "Are you serious? We learned that yesterday." It wasn't Ron's fault that he couldn't remember things easily.

But, after months of stress and pressure, exams were over. And this is where Ron leaves off, lying in his bed with his eyes closed, taking in the silkiness of his bed, the cold chill in the air from the seasonal change of Autumn to Winter. Ron relished in the feeling, the feeling of the weight being lifted off his shoulders, the feeling of not having any expectations to weigh you down.

Ron stayed in his bed for a few more minutes before getting up again. He did have some friends to talk to, they are waiting on him.
