Last Stand
Note: Missing Scene from 4X15, how Auggie convinces Calder to leave without him.
"Come on Anderson," Calder called from the door of the jet.
Auggie didn't turn around, but Calder saw him shake his head in the negative. These 2 were truly going to be the death of him. He trotted down the stairs and jogged over to the man who appeared to the world to be staring intently at the airplane hangar.
"Auggie, if we don't leave now we are all stuck here with an MSS Officer in custody. Our only lead on Henry gone and a lifetime of Chinese prison to look forward to if we are lucky," he whispered fiercely.
"Then you guys should get out of here," Auggie said calmly still looking straight ahead.
"She'll be OK," Calder said lamely.
"There are at least 10 of them," Auggie's voice was barely audible over the jet engine.
Calder hung his head.
"OK, you take Lee back and I'll go after Annie," Calder offered.
"That is nice of you Calder, after everything we've put you through, but I'll get Annie's back. We need you at Langley working Lee with Joan, you know Henry has more moles in that place, he knew we were here. Take Lee back and help us from there," Auggie rationalized.
"The odds of this ending well…." Calder began.
"It was OK to leave Annie with those odds?"
"She made this decision, months ago to go after Henry, you can walk back your part in it all."
"Well I made the decision years ago to always have Annie's back, even if it led me to prison or worse. I got her out of an unbreakable Russian prison, I can get her out of Hong Kong," Auggie tried to sound confident.
"Romeo and Juliet both wound up dead."
"Although culturally relevant, your fortune cookie wisdom won't sway me," Auggie scoffed.
"OK, I have to get Lee out of here," Calder placed a hand on Auggie's shoulder and the man finally turned away from the hangar.
"Don't trust anyone but Joan and Barber," Auggie advised.
"Can I read Eric Barber in?"
"If you have to, I wanted to spare him this insanity, but it is all going to be over one way or another," Auggie blanched for a second.
"I hope she knows…" Calder trailed off.
"What?"
"How much you love her. I hope she knows," Calder laughed ruefully.
"I haven't given her a lot of cause to believe that lately," Auggie tapped his cane against the pavement a little harder than necessary.
"When this ends, if both of you are still breathing, I would make sure there is no room for doubt," Calder said, patted Auggie's shoulder and jogged back to the plane.
The End
