OTP Boot Camp Challenge [Eternity]

Eternity

Eternity was an extremely long time when one looked at it.

Living for eternity had been an idea he had held, a desire to be powerful enough to elude even death. It had been the idea that had fuelled his ambition from the very moment he had stepped foot in the world of magic.

His mother had been weak. She had died, she had not been willing to live, she had given up. His mother had not been willing to live beyond seeing him take his first breath, she had not been strong enough to continue living. All for a muggle man. His mother had fallen in love with the idea of being in love and being able to escape the clutches of her father and brother. He had never understood such useless sentiments.

How could you give up? How could you want death? How do you embrace death without fighting back?

Understanding such sentiments evaded him. He always cast such thoughts out of his mind whenever they managed to somehow wander in. There were always more important issues that required his time than such trivialities.

That had been until he had met Harry Potter. Even as a mere child, not knowing much of the world, he had stared death straight in the eyes without flinching and lived to tell the tale. His idea of willingly accepting death were no longer a mere triviality any longer, even as he had his horcruxes carefully hidden as reassurance should he ever be faced with the possibility of death as he had been upon his first encounter with Harry Potter.

Such thoughts had filled his mind since then. Perhaps it was fear that caused one to truly disappear? Or maybe acceptance that allowed victory over death? It was an interesting concept, one that had never crossed his mind before. There had been no reason for it but once he had cast it some thought, he realized that everyone he had used as an example had not accepted their death, they had simply been desperate for death.

Harry Potter was different though, he welcomed both life and death. Desperate for neither yet willing to accept both should the need arise. He accepted both Life and Death like friends, something that fascinated him. He had always seen Death as an enemy and Life as an Ally.

That fascination had caused him to want to understand the boy more than he already did in an attempt to solve the mystery that surrounded the boy. Perhaps he had delved too far in search for that information. He had ended up growing too fond of the boy in his search for answers.

He had grown fond enough of the boy for them to have reached this point. This point of painful knowledge and truth he wished to never admit, not even to himself. This was the point where lies were better than the truth, especially after everything he had tried to achieve his entire life.

Eternity was an incredibly long time, that was entirely too pointless and lonely.
