A Short Sad Story

He walked slowly down the busy street, making his way towards Mutant High while admiring the sights and sounds around him. Bobby was an old man now but he still enjoyed looking at the goods sold in the stalls along the street.

"Would you like to buy a rose, sir?" a tiny voice beside him said. He turned to look and saw a small girl holding out a big bunch of beautiful red roses. "Such lovely flowers!" he exclaimed to the girl. Then a thought struck him with full force. "Red roses, they were her favourite… …"

"Rogue! Hang on! I'll get you out of here! Hang on! You hear me?" Bobby carried Rogue up and ran to the top of the building. She had been shot on the mission while trying to save a few innocent young mutants and was bleeding badly. "Hang on ok? They're coming! Storm's bringing the jet over right now!" It was raining heavily outside. Bobby placed Rogue down on the ground gently and laid her head on his arm. He shifted his body so that he could shelter her from the rain. Rogue gasped for air, she could feel her life draining away from her. " Bobby?" " I'm here, they'll be here soon Rogue don't worry… …" "Bobby… … before I go… … I just want you to know that… …that I… …I… …love… …" Rogue stopped and her eyes closed shut. " Rogue! No, no don't do this to me. Talk to me! Come on talk to me! No…." Bobby broke down and hugged her tightly. He kissed her and felt devastated when nothing happened. " No… … Please, don't do this to me Rogue, please…." The rain was pelting down on him mercilessly and how he wished he could die as well…

"Sir? Sir? Are you ok sir?" She tugged on his shirt and brought him back to reality. " Oh, oh yeah I'm fine, I'm fine" Bobby said. It all happened so long ago and yet the memories were still all too fresh in his mind. " I'll buy the whole bunch from you" "You will? Wow thanks! " He paid for the roses and the girl sped off. As he continued walking down the street looking at the roses in his wrinkled hands, a tear rolled down his cheek.
