Car Accident
I was driving to the pool hall with my mother, Matt, Ruthie, her boyfriend Peter Petrowski, Lucy's husband Kevin Kinkirk, her friend Christine, and the twins Sam and David. We were going to meet Mary at the pool hall and Dad and Lucy would be joining us later.
Suddenly, I saw someone on a bike come out of nowhere. I stopped the car and heard a thud so I got out of the car and so did the others.
That's Justin's brother Paul, I realized in shock. Kevin went over to Paul to check for a pulse.
"He's dead," Kevin said with regret. I stood there in shock.
"Justin's going to be steamed," I said. "That's his brother Paul."
"Simon, it was an accident," my mom said gently.
"An accident where I killed someone," I said angrily.
"I'd better call Detective Michaels and let him know about this so he can go tell Reverend Camden," Kevin said. He pulled out his cell phone and dialed the police station.
I stood frozen in shock while Kevin talked with Detective Michaels. I barely noticed Sam and David walk up to either side of me.
"You all right?" Sam asked with concern.
"You look unhappy," David commented.
"I'm also worried," I admitted. "What if I go to prison for this?"
"You won't have to worry about that since what happened was an accident," Kevin said. That made me feel a little better.
"Kevin, may I please borrow your cell phone?" my mother asked. Kevin handed her the phone and she excused herself and stepped a few feet away.
"What's keeping Dad and Lucy?" I asked.
"Lucy's been acting secretive about something and Sergeant Michaels and Lou are stopping by the house to talk to your dad," Kevin told me.
My mom came back over and said, "I called Mary and let her know we won't be able to make it. She'll try to see us before she leaves if possible. I also called Dad to let him know we're coming home. We can talk to Detective Michaels and work everything out."
"Except bring Paul back to life," I said regretfully. "He's dead and nothing will ever bring him back."
"We should head back now," Kevin suggested. I headed to the driver's side and then I froze.
"You all right?" my mother asked with concern.
"I don't think I can drive right now," I admitted.
"If you want, I'll do the driving."
"All right."
My mother got in the driver's seat and I got in the back. After everyone was in the car, my mother started the car and we headed home.
