Coach McGuirk was watching the snow hit the football field as Brendan walked by, taking a break from playing as he sat on the white bench with McGuirk.
"Hey coach, how come you always seem to not really be enthusiastic with anything?" Brendan asked as he rubbed the back of his head with his left hand.
McGuirk sighed as he placed his hands on his knees, facing Brendan. "I knew that it would come to this eventually. I might as well tell you." He cleared his throat as he wrapped his right arm around Brendan. "You know how you have your friends, Brendan? I used to have friends, too. When I was young, your age." He then sighed as he closed his eyes, pinching the temple up above his nose. "I haven't heard from any of them in years. Being lonely is pretty fun, but then you find out that being lonely isn't all there is to life. You need to socialize, and in order to-" He was then hit in the face by a soccer ball, making him growl as he glared at the kids. "HEY! WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT HITTING THE BALL TOO HIGH?" He sighed as he glanced back at Brendan. "Anyway, drinking. It's not good for you, and you're too young for it. So don't do it."
"...you were talking about socializing." Brendan remarked as he rubbed the back of his head with his right hand.
"Ah, I think I was. Yeah." Brendan remarked as he snapped his fingers. "Right. Drinking can lead to socializing. And that helps you prevent being lonely." He paused as he looked at the sky, blinking. "...Of course, if you're lonely, drinking can be your best friend. It makes you feel better. Yeah." He then took out a can of diet soda as he sipped it, sighing as he shook his head. "Of course, if you eat while drinking, it makes it better. And more socializing-" He then got hit in the balls by a soccer ball, causing him to scream in pain as he fell off the bench, curling up into a ball. "D-damn it! W-what did I t-tell you damn kids about kicking the ball at people!?"
Brendan glanced around as he whistled, heading back to the field as he left McGuirk to groan weakly in pain for the next several minutes.
